Back to the Collins rumour. If it is true that we'd be willing to sell him, then I'd rather the club buy his replacement before we sell him. I'd rather not take the chance of selling him then finding out we can't get the replacement we want.

I'm not sure we - or any club really - has quite that much control of a transfer window. Sometimes deals have to be done when they're available to be done.

Collins out would be madness. But that LW is maybe the best slot for McAtee? Feck knows what he is though.

He isn’t a winger. Maybe he’s a 10, albeit more of a “split striker” than a creative genius.

I'm loving these signings, exactly what we need. We've improved massively already IMO. Still a long way to go, but these signings feel right for whatever that's worth. Getting rid of Collins would be another masterstroke, especially if we use his fee to pay off most of the other half-hearted, talentless bastards we've acquired at great cost under the last pratt. It's looking good so far.

When things were going well Collins was great.

From Iles in the BN…
It appears Schumacher’s plans to change the playing style and shape at Wanderers mean that there could be a knock-on effect for the club’s surplus of secondary strikers and ‘number 10s’ – and that Collins, John McAtee, Joel Randall and Klaidi Lolos may not be guaranteed the same amount of game time as they got last season.

Good opinion price from MI today more or less reflecting what I’ve been saying. You can’t really turn the situation around without selling some players. We don’t need a minor tweak it’s a major overhaul. As he says tinkering round the edges won’t cut it.

It feels like that shouldn't be any sort of news.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 7:17 amFrom Iles in the BN…

In part because guarantee and game time shouldn't sit in the same sentence unless no, precedes guarantee.
But I think the other thing that gets me about it is how dumb and over engineered it all sounds. To this day, I could barely tell you what position that collection of wet wipes actually play. Nailing their position is like trying to find the Higgs boson and the fact that there are multiple posts about most that start with the phrase "I think X would be better/best as a [insert some bizarre position here - maybe a trequartista or some such]." If it isn't pretty obvious (odd poor game aside which everyone has) why you're stood on the turf and what you need to do whilst you're stood there, then you might as well be the car park attendant for all the value you're adding.

I for one would be quite happy to see Collins go. I think he's emblematic of the issues of the last couple seasons. For sure, we'd miss his ability to score out of nothing, but for too much of the time his contribution is more Dan than SKD. Goes missing far too often. I'd rather reliability and steady supply of goals than what we've seen from him.

I might be kinder and say I’ve been saying for a while that none of these players fit into a 433/4231/4 at back with some width somewhere system. None.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 8:37 amIt feels like that shouldn't be any sort of news.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 7:17 amFrom Iles in the BN…

But it’s pretty obvious they don’t. And I said earlier in the summer when discussing systems that it was my concern with going to a back four. But maybe that’s the outcome. Move them (or whichever ones we can) on and still change the system.
The problem with their recruitment as you say is that I don’t think any really do have a role in modern football systems - none are that good as a number 10 you have to play them there. Indeed I think the number 10 role is a bit of a myth. It’s a second striker. Or nowt.
But none of them really fit. Can’t play up top on their own. None are really wide forwards - they couldn’t be further from stelios/diouf if they tried and none are gutsy attacking mids who will get double figures arriving into the box late.
I’d say all to an extent are luxury players you carry more than they carry you.

Coming round to this view now. Seeing the sorts we are recruiting and the likely system change and I mean Collins is hardly a full effort every game type I think it makes sense.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 8:49 amI for one would be quite happy to see Collins go. I think we've relied too much on DIon and Collins to score the last few seasons. The midfield and defence haven't contributed much in terms of goals for (they've certainly contributed much to goals againstBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 9:01 amComing round to this view now. Pete O'Rourke reports that the Sharman-Lowe deal is done, although I guess because he's currently in Slovakia with the 21s that might not get announced yet.
Re: Schu me the way to Amarillo - Summer 2025 Transfer Thread
State of play lineup with Simons and TSL included, and Collins still just about here.

Thomason for Randall without a shadow of doubt. And I suspect Forino with Toal. Johnstone left back as it stands.
We will go for a big physical team not a bunch of midgets.

I don't want Thomason that far forward.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jun 13, 2025 10:21 amThomason for Randall without a shadow of doubt. And I suspect Forino with Toal. Johnstone left back as it stands.

I strongly suspect that if Randall shows up in good shape and with a good attitude he will be given every chance. He's got some pace, the ability to pick a pass and can finish, and we also spunked loads of cash on him.
