Woods is out there by some way when it comes to sports earners. They say he'll be the first sports billionaire.

The average pay in American Football will beat most other sports. There are only 32 teams, and no real feeding sytem like minor leagues or divisions in proper football. Due to the salary cap the top paid NFL players wont hit the top of that list, but they would probably dominate the 50-150 slots along with Baseball. £100k a week is still only £5.2 million per year. That's roughly $9 million US. There are plenty of NFL footballers on or near that who arent in the class of Beckham in their sport.

They too have a salary cap, which leads to ridiculous top end deals (because one player can actually make a team) and a boat load of low dollar bottom deals.

I like basketball, after proper Football, Baseball, and American Football. when played well it is a good game to watch, which is why I prefer college basketball. It's a good game to watch at an arena. I know that most of the English dont like it, but I grew up playing the game with friends.

Fact is very few are able to make a fist of it and those that have enjoyed any success as such are speciality players, punters and place kickers..
Jonah Lomuh was scouted and whilst he possessed the physicality he wasn't actually up too much when faced with 6 guys in front of him who were similarly equipped and raised on raw steak.. So yeah he's big and quick but unfortunately defensive lines are not generally populated with too many Underwoods to stamp on..

It's Like any game once you actually know something about it you grow to appreciate the complexity..
Or you can take the Baseball... that's rounders with Hotdogs.. approach ... and look like a bit of a tit..
and clearly you don't understand the complexity of rugby.
I only played Rugby to Schoolboy County level... So I suppose it got more complex after that...
Lomuh scouted? Ha hahahaha ! You mean they watched him? Bit of a difference.
No the New York Giants scouted him, visited him and concluded in consultation with him that he had more prospects of a top flight career as a Rugby player..
And besides he has no interest in the game, he's a rugby player through and through
He trained with their coaching staff and went through their trial process... Seems like an interest..
and fantasticly wealthy as a result of it.
No doubt but I doubt he commanded the wage of a top flight first choice NFL running back
Not as good against 6 big men? No shit!!?? Like a "footballer" couldn't take being hit without all his pads by Andy Farrell or Andrew Sheridan.
Most lineman would hand Andy Farrel his head and carry him back to the locker room on one shoulder with or without padding.. Mainly because they outweigh him by approx 10 stone and generally spend all day wrestling similar sized opponents who incidentally they are not allowed to grab hold of or pull to the floor.. As for padding the NFL historically only ever introduce changes in safety kit when someone died or was seriously injured [and when I played Rugby League even good players wore shoulder padding
Underwood? 10 years too late norm. Do try and keep up.
Relevant as it was his performance against ludicrously undermatched three quarters which attracted the interest of New York. It was also the period prior to his illnes when even people who understand the complexities of Rugger would say he was at the height of his powers..
you keep on with this superiority argument as it's laughable.
never made or supported the arguement.. Said they were different and if the skill set was transferable there'd be Rugby palyers in the NFL.. which there aren't
Lots of Rugby League players don't make it in union and vice versa very few top rugby players ever bother looking at "football" as an option, why should they?
Opinion expressed as fact.. As a general rule the NFL comes looking rather than the other way round, as in the Lomu example
Not all players are on multimillion dollar contracts.
Which is not to say that most NFL starters comfortably out earn their premiership or Superleague equivalents
Gridron relies soley on shirt bursts of energy amongst 40+ players each of whom do about 20 minutes actual work a game.
It's them complexities again... Top players will play every down on their side of the ball usually about 26 minutes where the ball is in play and 100% power is required
over a game that requires endurance..
Rugby requires all 15/13 players on the pitch (subject to bloodbaths) for the whole game. The two lots of atheletes are conditioned totally differently.
Fair arguement for League but how long is the ball in play in an 80 minute union game, and of that 50 minutes how much time does a back line three quarter player actually spend at 100%
Clearly none of you can grasp the idea that to say one sport is superior to the other is like saying apples are better than oranges.
True enough if it was supported by the rest of your posts where you coat off American sport and 'Football' throughout despite a tenuous knowledge of the sport..

well done norm, but it's probably best to get back to the discussion of the NFL.

Roll on season opener! Going to watch the sox tonight. Obstructed view. God Bless Fenway.

He is fine, but they are now monitoring him. He should be able to play sometime next week if he checks out. No cause identified as yet.

again nonsense. Not one place can you say I've "coated off" American sport.

players play every down? Like who? Offensive teams, defensive teams and special teams. What? maybe 2 tackles and a couple of linebackers are on the pitch all the game? and how much rest do they get between plays and between quarters? You can't make rash statements about fitness in that context.

10 stone heavy than andy farrell? Clueless in the extreme. 28stone players eh?

Wrestling other guys all day? - go see RL training.

Lomuh's "trial" was part of a sponsors arrangement. Just like when Botham went to try out baseball.

F= Football, as it is a vital part of the sport in open play and the game derives from Football at Rugby School.

Oh and just to make the point - I watch and participated in all 3, which I guess is more than you. I like NFL but the bigger fitter cleverer argument that has been purported on here is frankly ridiculous and does fans of the sport no service whatsoever.

To be fair, Norm didn't say they played every down - he said on their side of the ball, i.e. every offensive or defensive down. No one in pro football plays everydown these days. Linebackers are on the defensive team only - I suppose an offensive tackle could play defensive tackle in an emergency but I doubt it happens much.

I have played both games (touch variety of US one), watched both and enjoyed both. The comparisons are silly and inappropriate in my view.

Cleveland Browns Nose tackle... Ted Washington 365 pounds... Slim chaps like Larry Alan weigh in at 325 and skinny ones slink embarassed off the scale at 305.. and as you know Nose tackles generally take on two opposing blockers all day... Andy currently weighs in at 240.. according to Saracens..
fell free to quibble over a stone or two points the same.. in a straight fight Mr Farrell is road kill..pads or not..

The arguement was Lineman v Andy Farrell... So I quote lineman stats... what were you expecting the weight of a couple of Punters...

but while we're on good examples.. Andy isn't one... A quick look at Wigan and Saints current squads shows Andy as fifth heavyiest out of 50 super league first teamers
Who as a group weigh on averafe at a smidge over 210.... So Big Ted Aside... still a cosy 115 below Larry Allen.. and 95 below a skinny LINEMAN... Most of whom get fined if they go below 300.. and usually get weighed for statos at camp before bulking on another 30-40 lbs before kick off...

All athletes just different..
