Best Football player in the world

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Kaka for me, with Van Persie taking over the mantle shortly - If he's playing that is

Van Persil? Surely a joke nomination.

Whilst he's a good player he's a long long way off being the "best" in the world.

You have to win a few things before that can truly be said of you.

Part of being the best in the world is inspiring your side to win things and staying calm and focussed under pressure.

Kaka is probably the most complete attacking midfield player in the world and probably gets my vote.

Although I'd also have to consider Nesta and Terry as well.

Not sure that you should have to win anything to be the best footballer. If Kaka played for MK Dons, it wouldn't make him any less talented...

But it would make judging him as a player a lot harder as he wouldn't be testing himself against the very best.

Winning trophies is a part of football, and some very brilliant players consistently bottled it on the big occassions and for me that means they wouldn't be the "very" best in the world.

Van Persie jas domestic cup wins, a premiership win (I think) and was part of a side that reached the champions league final - that's fairly decorated

If I was a manager and I could pick any two centre halves, I'd have Nesta and Terry. Terry is as good a centre back as I've seen.

Yeah he's a good centre half, but he's no Cannavaro, or Puyol, or Vidic.

defender's don't get considered for this type of question due to the art of defending being a more collective thing, even though some do stand out

(1) Messi, without a doubt, just watch a couple Barcelona games to see this guy is without equal/
(2) Kaka
(3) Fabregas

No he's much better than all of them.

Puyol is fairly average IMO.
