Snow Joke.
Got up this morning to two-and-a-half inches of snow in Farnworth. No big deal except the public transport's behaving like we're in Siberia. Bus twenty minutes late and train stopping all over the place with reports of hold-ups, delays and cancelattions. Lord help us if we ever get two-and -half feet instead..

From a quick look at BBC Breakfast this morning there were signal problems causing train delays from Bolton-Manc, not the weather.TANGODANCER wrote:Got up this morning to two-and-a-half inches of snow in Farnworth. But yes, we're hideously ill-equipped to deal with even the smallest of cold spells. It's a joke.

Aye, snowflakes must have landed on the signal boxes. Buses don't have signals though.blurred wrote:From a quick look at BBC Breakfast this morning there were signal problems causing train delays from Bolton-Manc, not the weather.TANGODANCER wrote:Got up this morning to two-and-a-half inches of snow in Farnworth. I gave up trying to get out of Bury onto the M66 after an hour and a half. I was only a mile away from home too.General Mannerheim wrote:we had a good 6/7 inches - took me 4 hours to get from Tottington to Manchester this morning!!!

We have to deal with it Monty. It's the local authorities that can't seem to. Crazily enough, I'm in central Manchester now with no snow in sight. Twill be a different picture when I get home, whatever time that may be.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Oh, my heart bleeds for you all - must be horrible to have to deal with a few inches of snow.

While I know no one uses snow tyres (which I did not until they became mandatory this year) over there, do you have ABS brakes, or the skills to pump on and off to avoid toboganning and maintaining control? A couple of inches should not the cause the chaos I'm reading about here.officer_dibble wrote:2 hrs into leeds today; worst bit was actually parking up at work, slid down a hill, like a car tobaggan!! Should of stayed at home.

I suppose it does take getting used to and getting it every year helps. This is a typical suburban street scene here when it snows - taken a couple of years back (note the guy ploughing driveways is going the wrong way on a one way street and has to back up).
