21-1 Cook caught Hussey in gully B Hilfenhaus. Not a good shot a long way from his body...

Was a good catch aye. You would rather hope that our openers weren't chasing balls like that after winning the toss on a fairly unpacy pitch though when we're 8 overs into a new Ashes series.

Ravi seems to have weathered the Siddle storm.

90-3

Apparently it's costing Glamorgan that much to stage this game that they need it to run a full five days to make it pay.

Are they mad?

40 runs later and the world hasn't fallen apart, though I imagine this post will kinx things. I feel like I'm taking stuff off of a Buckaroo and hoping it stays still...

My understanding is that all grounds have to bid for the Test matches, and that the Welsh Assembley granted money so that Sofia Gardens could host the Ashes. (It was in the Telegraph a good 18 months ago, explaining why OT wouldn't get one - hence why they started the work now).
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Cheers Ricky P - 90/3, looking rocky, what does he do? Bring on two spinners who couldn't turn an oven knob. Cue 100 partnership. Gee thanx.

194 for 3 with Pietersen and Collingwood both posting half centuries means a nice recovery after a bad start. Dig in guys.

very pleasing - we were always gonna lose a couple of pre-lunch wickets just for first-day-of-the-ashes nerves...

BUT.. this time we didn't collapse to 153 all out - and the Aussies are NOT actually looking threatening and fired up and in or faces...

so - reasons to be cheerful!
