German nationalkeeper Robert Enke dies aged 32

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Just said on 5 live that they think it was suicide. Hit by a train while parked on a level crossing, poor chap lost his daughter to cancer 3 years ago, all very sad. RIP hope you find peace in heaven.
If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England

I've got more sympathy for the poor guy who hit him, but it's still terribly tragic.

RIP.

You can't imagine the turmoil that must be in someone's head to do this ... given that he has another small child & wife and in every other way his life seems a magnificent one. It shows that money & fame can't cover everything.

I also agree with Tom that this touches other lives too, now.

Still, very sad indeed.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

So sorry about this. I saw Robert play against my adopted German club, VfB Stuttgart, two years ago. He was one of the good guys, liked and respected by opponents as well as his own fans. Ich hoffe, dass du jetzt im Frieden bist, Robert.

Robert Enke originally wanted to be a midfielder, but he couldn't cross to save his life!

In occasions like this I can't help but feel sorry for the poor train driver, just doing his job and then has to cope with all this.

Or his wife, who not only had to go through the grief of losing a child, but also to go through the anguish of having to support a husband with severe depression for so long, and the ensuing grief from this. Got to be a strong woman through all this.

Stop it.

Not your average WAG, from what I saw in her press conference earlier today. Just coming across as someone who's accepting that it's a very public death, rather than going into her shell and becoming a pariah by the press (tell me it wouldn't happen, I dare you).

I have a lot of respect for how his wife conducted herself at the press conference - very brave and dignified. Somehow got the impression, as I did from the doctor, that she almost expected something like this. Hope the poor lass gets some space now, as she's had a hell of a lot to deal with in the past few years.

Turns out Robert Enke's local HMV had sold out of Modern Warfare 2!
