£15 million on 3 players who do you buy?

Walters looks a completely different prospect now to the guy I saw play maybe twice for us. He's really filled out and looks like a decent athlete now.
I liked Walters when he played for us, if he'd come through when we were comfortable as opposed to fighting the drop he might have done better. Then again I thought Liam Ridgewell was a good un so......
He was alright... I'm sure I saw him score for us in a friendly once... Verona rings a bell. I remember thinking at the time that he looked quite talented but that he lacked the physical attributes to make it in the Prem.

Anyway, he looks much quicker, stronger and tougher now (and not just because he's got a skinhead these days...).

Well the last three years I've lived with or been close friends with fans of championship clubs, and when Roy Keane described him as the second best player in that division he wasn't that far wrong. I can't remember the games I saw him in but I thought he had the brain for it, now it seems he has the brawn. Again though, according to a similarly aged me, Emmanuel Morini=Star.....

Yep, I mean not everyone is like Rooney and ready to play a man's game at 16. I don't think it was any accident or even huge misjudgment that meant Blackburn, us, Hull, Crewe, Wrexham and god knows who else decided they weren't keen on him before he finally ended up at Chester.

Fair play to him for working hard on his conditioning and game since then and fighting his way back up the footballing ladder. I can't think of many who have done it his way. I also can't think of many players who looked quicker at 25 than they did at 19.

Also by many accounts he was a right cockjob whilst at Bburn and at the reebok. He seems to have settled down. I hope he does well. Apart from against us.

Well, he is from Birkenhead after all.

Interesting that he admits here that he didn't look after himself properly when he was with us. And what he says about the role of luck in his career since.

Indeed, saw a lot of him both playing and off pitch around the time he became Ipswich's main man. Seems to have grown up a lot, and I think it takes a certain strength of character to go that far down and come back again. There's lads who leave Bolton at 18/19 who end up not getting a game for Chorley, and to go from being by many accounts a right little sh*t, to being a proper ambitious professional, especially as a plastic scouser, one of your lot :D, must speak volumes for him.

Is this the same Jon Walters who was described on another thread as "thrown out of Blackburn for being allegedly a tea leaf in the dressing room", and on the same thread someone implied that there were similar alleagtions when he was with us?

Maybe he has grown up then

Yeah, I think that was certainly supposed to be the case at B'Burn, not sure if he did it here. Good for him if he's turned it around.

Thieving barsteward. Was given a warning, didn't learn from it, did it again (this time to the wrong person) Faced the consequences. His 'physical attributes' aren't the reasons he didn't make it at Blackburn and Bolton

Okay, but this isn't a rumour or owt. It's THE reason he was thrown out

If nothing went to court, then you'd have to be able to prove he was a thieving barsteward as you have said that he is. If nothing ever came to court, then I'd countenance treading carefully as DSB has mentioned.

That he left Bolton and Blackburn isn't the issue. That's a fairly provable fact.

That's not what he could sue over

Two questions: Can they sue? Will they sue? I doubt he would but it's a risk, and he's tenaciously built his career back up from the dead, he wouldn't exactly want to be besmirched (although the counter-argument is that legal action would only expose it).

If a person has been cautioned rather than convicted, you have to have a very robust reason for mentioning it at all - say, if he is accused of a further offence (preferably related). If you are sued, he has nothing to prove at all: you have to justify your reason and quite possibly produce evidence that it happened at all.

Even if a person is convicted, there are certain lengths of time after which some crimes are no longer mentionable ("lapsed conviction" or "spent conviction"). For the record, these are:

Conviction resulting in a fine: five years
Conviction resulting in a jail term up to six months: seven years
Conviction resulting in a jail term more than six months but less than 30: 10 years
Conviction resulting in a jail term of 30 months or more: never

Right, that's my public duty done, I'm off to bugger a squirrel

Driving offenses result in a conviction and a fine - surely such are not declared....? As for the suit, he would have to prove what a tea leaf meant (which took me a couple of minutes not being a WHam supporter).

If you are suing someone for libel/slander, don't you have to prove that your reputation was damaged? Somehow I doubt a message board would count. Has any footballer ever sued a forum denizen?
