Half wits and guns are a dreadful combination. Just yesterday an N.Z. lass was killed by a myopic 'hunter' whilst she was cleaning her teeth at a camp site. The FBU is one of the most inexplicably militant of our public sector unions. They strike or go to dispute at the drop of a helmet and have done since the 1970's.

They are protecting lives and I thank them for doing their job ... but also looking to protect their overblown working conditions and amazing bonus driven pay-levels. This, in a nutshell, is a dispute to protect their age-old traditions of sleeping on the job and moonlighting.

It is not now the tradition to have bonfires on Nov 5th in London - it is the tradition to have them on whatever day seems best to you (for many people it will be saturday 6th this year) - a week or so either side!

it is still traditional to have christmas day on a particular day - so the two are not entirely equivalent.

(also - how having a tube strike would affect me celebrating christmas or make it irresponsible to do so is a bit of a mystery...)

I know right swiss they are!! The destructive power seems somewhat to be lacking nowadays, I mean they bang and fizz but don't acutally destroy like the old cannon or 321 bangers.

I have to lock my dog in every night because of idiots who start letting bangers off just after tea and carry on till crazy hours, and that's three weeks before Nov 5th and a fortnight after. I'm all for kids having fun around the 5th, but there are limits.

It's a bit of fun, hardly anyone's fault for wanting to enjoy themselves. People who have dogs know that they want locking up when it's bonfire season, same as everyone else knows that when you're walking down a path you keep an eye out for dog shit. Give and take.
