No, I'm still seriously talking about "not getting relegated".KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote:Is anyone else here seriously talking of Champions League football? Kevin Day mentioned it, but I've yet to hear a Bolton fan talk about it. And let's keep it that way for a while.
It's November. If it happens, fantastic. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We're just past a third of the way through the season. We've had a great start to the season which could have been even better. The positivity is boundless. But let's keep our feet on the ground and enjoy it - once it becomes within reach, then we can talk about it more.

I've been scrabbling around for this article for a while today....

Well, here was his follow-up....Let’s be frank, Bolton are basically a blown-up Championship club

Note the "welcoming, friendly club", rather than "blown-up Championship club"Wanderers are a welcoming, friendly club, who have performed miracles over the last nine years to achieve everything they have done.
However I still believe they would not be in such a mess if Megson had been left to get on with the job.
Don't forget, they weren't in the bottom three when he got the chop and had taken five points from his last three games.

That's as close to "Bolton are actually better off without Megson" as we're going to get, I think.I stood up for Gary Megson when he endured the sort of abuse from fans you wouldn't dish out to a dog.
I felt his sacking 11 months ago was harsh and I believe he would have kept Bolton up.
But what is beyond question is that Owen Coyle has built on the solid foundations left by Megson.

Davo did say on goals on Sunday that he would have let Elmo take then pen for if he was on the pitch.
That said, Davies is clearly the regular penalty taker now (even when Taylor is on) so the practice is welcome. He needs to learn how to go left though . . .
Re: It's just like watching Bolton
He absolutely terrifies me taking them, but so far he has the Germanic knack of sticking them in the corner so the keeper can't get it even if he goes the right way. The only shit one he has taken was the Wigan one last year. That's why Brum shocked the life out of me.

Thay don't like us. We weren't wrong. Or something

Re: It's just like watching Bolton
I asked him on Twitter if he's always taken penalties in training or for former clubs but he said he's only recently started taking them, which was a surprise but as long as he keeps putting them away, who cares!

Re: It's just like watching Bolton
I remember the first penalty of the season the team were standing around looking at each other in a 'me? you?' fashion.

SKD stepped up, looking a bit reluctant, but he buried it. The rest is history.
The 'unrelated' link was supposed to illustrate the 'you, me, you?' part.

He has great technique when it comes to pens, all impeccably struck. Still don't feel totally confident with him taking them yet, but it's coming.
Re: It's just like watching Bolton
We have ZERO chance of qualifying for the Champions League! Come on we aren't Spurs, City, Villa or Newcastle fans for gods sake, we have too much realism and belief in out teams true abilities to be so stupid as to think that CL is attainable!KeeeeeeeBaaaaaaab wrote:Is anyone else here seriously talking of Champions League football? So lets all forget that it was mentioned and get back to the realities of gaining 45pts and avoiding relegation!
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

same corner, always that bit too far away for the keeper to grasp
OK
here is a related question....I remember Super John missing a pen.....may even have been a shoot out. Team, date, any significance? (I don't know the answer!)

Wasn't it Norwich City in the League cup, during our first Prem season?

Waaaaaaaaaaaay to early to be talking CL or even Europa.
Re: It's just like watching Bolton
I'm just wondering what comes next for the club after we conquer Europe in 2012?
