LK I was in Tesco last night and picked up a fillet of Vietnamese River Cobbler. I was told it cooks like cod so was going to poach it in milk with a little seasoning.

Any thoughts?

LK will know better than me, but I would steam it over some lemongrass, corriander, chilli and coconut milk and lime or sommat like that.

Seriously, its nothing like cod. They sell it because the mark up is much higher. We should be fighting these things. Chinese "Alaskan" Salmon(you have to see that one to believe how bad it is), Vietnamese Pangasius....

You can poach it in milk if you want though. Its probably best cooked with a strong citrus/vinegar based sauce I'd say.

But I was just trying to be helpful and positive seeing as it has already been purchased. I know a few years back it was to be avoided like the plague but sure recently I heard that it had improved and like I say fella I know swears by it.

They do like a bit of carp in Poland.

In fact, carp, and not turkey, is the centrepiece of a Polish Christmas dinner.

My girlfriend, who finally made it back to Poznan today, tells me this is partly to do with that Catholic thing of not eating meat on certain days, and partly to do with the fact that carp was historically a 'royal' fish in Poland, as only the king was allowed to breed it in his ponds, apart from the few people to whom he granted a special licence.

So yes, somewhere on that bizarre journey, carp became a bit of a delicacy.
