[All] Today I'm fuming over Bernie the Boss' suggestion that in order to spice up F1 motor racing and to provide increased 'entertainment' he will consider dousing tracks with water should Mother Nature not give it away free of charge. Has he lost the plot? Surely it's dangerous enough in the dry, and more so on the occasions real rain does fall, without putting lawn sprinklers around a track? I've never heard such a silly proposition in all my life.

I have it's matching pair & yes, it's getting embarrassing now !William the White wrote:I might be grateful - since I went back to work the shelf of shame of unread novels just creaks away behind my back, gathers dust, cobwebs will soon appear...
Like "shelf-of-dhame", sums it up well.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Sure, Hoboh, maybe the 2012 London Olympic competition could have the 100 metre sprint run with a track covered in KY jelly and no spikes allowed?
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Couple of things, neither actually make me angry but one has me thinking 'fcuk me, does nobody actually pay for owt' and the second finds me giving a wry smile while thinking 'another leftie, full of principles while shoving her little snout in the trough'
Prescriptions up 20p to about £48 each....fair enough, if I'm ill, I'll just have to pay it, but then I read 90% of prescriptions are issued free.....good lord
Secondly, it seems the LSE has benefited from some gifts from that nice Colonel out in Libya...well, heyho, they need funding so I'm not too arsed about that, but who do I find on their board, but Shamishamishami Chakrabati...fcukme, talk about selling out when it suits

They're 7 quid sommat aren't they? And the reason 90% are issued free I guess is that there are the usual financial/elderly exemptions but also many ilnesses that require lifelong medication provide people with free prescriptions. On the basis that it would be unfair for them to be saddled with paying out every month just because of genetics and shit. Whether people agree with it or not, I imagine its something this government will do their best to stop!

Despite all the moans, groans and supposed bad things we have, we still live in one of the finest and most civilised countries in the world. We could be so much worse off. Worth a thought now and then....?

Don't the jocks get all their tamazies free? That probably adds to it.BWFC_Insane wrote:Bloody hell Caps are you buying yours on the black market?CAPSLOCK wrote:Couple of things, neither actually make me angry but one has me thinking 'fcuk me, does nobody actually pay for owt' and the second finds me giving a wry smile while thinking 'another leftie, full of principles while shoving her little snout in the trough'

There are just so many folk who haven't got time to be sick while others do nowt but take, take, take
Can't go into too much detail but I know of folk who just live in the docs and its more due to habit/routine than need
I also have a close relative who is wheelchair bound, yet manages to work and has to pay for everything

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Free prescriptions are a tricky one. I mean we all get em subsidised anyways. Cos the actual cost of medicine is a damn sight more than the £7.40 a prescription costs.CAPSLOCK wrote:I know, I knowBWFC_Insane wrote:Bloody hell Caps are you buying yours on the black market?CAPSLOCK wrote:Couple of things, neither actually make me angry but one has me thinking 'fcuk me, does nobody actually pay for owt' and the second finds me giving a wry smile while thinking 'another leftie, full of principles while shoving her little snout in the trough'

And I agree that some folk end up having to pay for meds every month and others don't.
But take ilnesses like epilepsy where someone is generally ok and fit for work but to lead that normal everyday life and contribute their taxes etc they need to take regular medicines for life. Should they get it free? On the one hand they could be earning loads and easily be able to pay their fees, on the other they might be a far greater burden on society should they not get the medicine.
Tricky one to sort out I suppose.

was the £48 a typo?CAPSLOCK wrote:I know, I knowBWFC_Insane wrote:Bloody hell Caps are you buying yours on the black market?CAPSLOCK wrote:Couple of things, neither actually make me angry but one has me thinking 'fcuk me, does nobody actually pay for owt' and the second finds me giving a wry smile while thinking 'another leftie, full of principles while shoving her little snout in the trough'

I read it as not literally but exagerated to make a point, ie "half a million ants in my back garden (couple of dozen really). Might be wrong.thebish wrote: was the £48 a typo?

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
the SNP has an interesting - if quite difficult to evaluate - argument, suggesting that the money spent on free prescriptions os more than made up for in reduced NHS costs due to people who are put off going to the doctor - or curtail their treatment because of high prescription charges - and then go on to develop much more critical conditions that require very expensive medical intervention...
the scots have free eye-tests too - and I suspect this argument is easier to demonstrate for eye-tests (which often highlight other severe medical conditions)...
it is said that women often go and get their teeth done when pregant cos they get free dental care then...

It is undoubtedly true but quantifying the actual real amounts is I imagine very difficult to do.thebish wrote:the SNP has an interesting - if quite difficult to evaluate - argument, suggesting that the money spent on free prescriptions os more than made up for in reduced NHS costs due to people who are put off going to the doctor - or curtail their treatment because of high prescription charges - and then go on to develop much more critical conditions that require very expensive medical intervention...

Its like with NHS direct, that was launched because they thought it would divert folk away from their doctors. What it actually did was have an entirely new class of folk ring up and a percentage of those ended up going to their doctors. So traffic was increased all round, by a service that it was thought would reduce flow through GP surgeries!
Its the same sorts of arguments that go with spending on preventative medicine, such as TV ads and educational campaigns, it costs a lot but what does it save? Proponents will argue it saves a lot detractors will argue the other way and ultimately its impossible to measure!
