Flip side is that its 5th or higher to get in because of it. So we can't do it via the league, which we had an outside chance of doing before.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

What if Man City beat us in the final - then finish outside the top 5...?

Re: europe if we beat stoke
... and what happens if City win the Europa League, finish in the top 5 and win the FA Cup ?
Re: europe if we beat stoke
Lets not get ahead of ourselves, I'm sure the Stokies are thinking the same thing?
Pfffft.

Then runner up in the fa cup gets it. If city already qualify for a european competition then winning it will make no difference.sidewaysmove wrote:... and what happens if City win the Europa League, finish in the top 5 and win the FA Cup ?

Re: europe if we beat stoke
To clear this up...
The only way the runners-up of the FA Cup get a Europa League spot is if the FA Cup winners have qualified for the Champions League via a top-4 spot in the league.
So if City won the FA Cup, but finished 5th, the runners-up would get nowt and the team who finished 6th in the Prem would get Europa.
It's quite funny, we play City last game, so if City beat us in the final and the last Champions League spot was to go down to the last game between them and someone - we might have to lose to get Europa!?!
Seriously, I must stop these thoughts...

Re: europe if we beat stoke
If Liverpool finish 6th some bizarre rule will be invoked where they get the European spot.
In fact, lets be honest, if Liverpool finish 20th it'll happen.
So stop counting those chickens cocker, you've forgotten to factor in the scouse love-in at Soho Square.

lol stop being so worried everyone. If the players thought like you nothing good would come of it. Manchester City will finish in top 4 and Manchester United will beat them in the semi final anyways.

That's actually amazing. If that was the case, how on earth can you possibily go into a game knowing that you'll have to lose to get European football?!RusholmeRuffian wrote:To clear this up...

This is going to sound silly, and there's probably a very obvious answer, but do the rules actually state that you must go out there with the intention of winning? After all, teams go out to play for a point, so why not go out to tactically lose? I get the problem with match fixing, and the fear of players trying to cost their team matches, but if losing the match somehow benefits the team, is that breaking the rules?

Re: europe if we beat stoke
Is there a source for all this? Why would it make any difference what competition City qualify for?RusholmeRuffian wrote:To clear this up...

Because if they didn't qualify for the CL, then they would have to take the Europa League spot, meaning it wouldn't be passed on to anyone else.

Re: europe if we beat stoke
I think the point Tom was making is if City finish 5th and get the Europa League place via that route and then are in the Final and beat us or Stoke, there is still a Europa League spot going spare.hi there, i'm chris wrote:Because if they didn't qualify for the CL, then they would have to take the Europa League spot, meaning it wouldn't be passed on to anyone else.
I have heard as well that in those circumstances the place goes to 6th in the league but only from hearsay not a definitive clarification.
Either way its likely both Citeh and Utd will be top 4 and more than likely Utd will win that game!
Re: europe if we beat stoke
But if they were to win the Cup and finish 5th, they'd have two Europa League spots. The logic for why it would suddenly go to the League is lost on me.hi there, i'm chris wrote:Because if they didn't qualify for the CL, then they would have to take the Europa League spot, meaning it wouldn't be passed on to anyone else.

Aye but that doesn't say anything about what happens if City finish 5th and win the FA cup. Who gets the final Europa place then? 6th or the runners up?RusholmeRuffian wrote:Source!UEFA wrote:If the winner of the domestic cup qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, the domestic cup runner-up qualifies for the UEFA Europa League at the stage initially reserved for the lowest ranking top domestic league representative...
