Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC

Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
I simply can't see Jussi leaving this summer..
1. I can't see why he'd want to
2. I can't see any clubs much better than us wooing him - there have hardly ever been any serious suggestions that anyone else was after him

Jussi has vast experience. but we also risk losing Al-Habsi.
Preferably, for me, it'd be Al-Habsi as the number 1 next season. We could get a good 7-8 years with AAH, whereas Jussi is 'on his way'

1. Habsi represents the best chance of a fairly large payday. Sell him.
2. Jussi still has some left in the tank. Use him.
3. Bogdan has shown much promise. Promote him when Jussi steps down.
Of course the transition from #2 to #3 must be handled with care. Bogdan should get Cup games next season as well as the odd game in the league so Jussi can get rest. If Jussi is still performing at a high level come the end of next season, offer him a shorter-term contract on lower wages. If he's half-reasonable he'd surely take it.

Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
Folk seem to be ridiculously overconfident with regards to Bogdan, he's looked solid so far, done little wrong, but proven himself good enough to be a premiership number one in the next couple of years? Not even close. Whilst I see the logic of selling Ali as we'd get more pennies for him, we run the risk of having to spend that money, or more, in 12 months or two years for a Jussi replacement if Bogdan is shite.

Agree with that strategy... Jussi still has the job for me, Ali will raise some cash, Bogdan has promise enough to continue to develop...SonsOfThunder wrote:1. Habsi represents the best chance of a fairly large payday. Sell him.

Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
It's more about cash flow for me. Presumably (hopefully) in 12 months/two years we won't be looking at losing our two highest scoring strikers and arguably the best centre half we've had in the last 20 years (certainly he'd get in a combined XI).Prufrock wrote:Folk seem to be ridiculously overconfident with regards to Bogdan, he's looked solid so far, done little wrong, but proven himself good enough to be a premiership number one in the next couple of years? 'Keepers are generally fairly cheap anyway. Only I think Gomes, Reina and Cech out of the league's first choice goalkeepers cost more than £5mil, most are below/around the £3mil or so we'd get for Ali.
Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
Equally, most keepers seem to cost a couple of million quid, which we only had one lot of last time around. Cahill's departure means we'll probably have pennies to spend for the only season a few years before or ahead. I'd rather have the keeper position sorted for the next 5,6,7 years for certain and risk sitting on Jussi's wages for another year if he sits around (with the bonus that that wouldn't half be competition for places), than risk getting cash for Ali we then have to find again in two years time when we aren't sitting on a £15million plus centre half. If keepers tend to be cheap, and as such we shouldn't worry about buying one, what makes us think we can get any meaningful sum for Ali now?
If someone comes in with silly money for Al-Habsi, £6million plus, by all means sell, but otherwise I'd rather have the number one sewn up for the foreseeable.

He's looked solid apart from that hairy moment when he got absolutely nowehere near a cross at Blackburn after rushing out 15 yards.. Luckily Roberts(?) missed the open net

Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
I've seen Bogdan from the reserves up for us. He's never failed to impress me over the last 4 years at all levels. Sure, its difficult to predict how well a youngster will develop in the long term. But he's got as good a set of raw materials as Jussi had at his disposal all those years ago. Its well worth risking him as second pick (to either of the other two).
Which kind of echoes what Tom was saying. Its the now thats worrying. Perming 2 from 3 of our keepers is not as bad a risk as having Kevin Davies and Robbie Blake as our strike force.
So either rid the wages of Jussi or get the money for Ali. I think its fairly straightforward, and the least of our worries.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
I am told by someone who understands this stuff that Al-Habsi has just tweeted the following....
"after the last match next week and whether we win or lose, ill be heading back to Bolton as of what I signed on the contract. Be sure ill not accept sitting on the bench next season with any of the clubs"
Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
I would lose respect for him if he didn't think that way. We have a keeping decision that must be made this summer. Won't be easy but hope its the right one.thebish wrote:I am told by someone who understands this stuff that Al-Habsi has just tweeted the following....

Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
I'm still completely undecided about what to do with the goalkeepers next season.
Wouldn't be unhappy to see Jussi continue
Wouldn't be unhappy to see Ali be no.1
Not sure.

How many times have we seen this this season where Jaaskelainen just falls to his knees whilst offering a token wave? Far, far too many for me. Cheers Jussi, but you've had it, owd lad!

May the bridges I burn light your way

Pretty much the same over here, mate - it'd be nice to get some money either way (incoming fee or outgoing wage), but I'm not massively fussed which way it goes. Other areas are of far greater concern...Lofthouse Lower wrote:I'm still completely undecided about what to do with the goalkeepers next season.

Yep the pies are still bad and the beer overpriced!
Re: Jussi Jaaskelainen to leave BWFC
After the B'pool game the whole back line needs refreshing. It should start with in between the sticks. Bye bye Jussi.
