Re: The Politics Thread
I live about two miles from Watford Gap. I hope it doesn't go through my bloody garden.BWFC_Insane wrote:I've often wondered about whether a big wall would be a good idea.Bruce Rioja wrote:Yeay, straight down to Talibs for a ski jumper and a pair of stonewashed Dam Yankee jeans
I don't mind there being a north/south divide just so long as I'm on the northern side of it!
But where would it be, north of Watford gap? Or through Brum? Or north of Brum?
To be honest perhaps we could just build it round the South East corner....
God's country! God's county!
God's town! God's team!!
How can we fail?

Are we scottish now? Cut off London, that'll be a belting idea. I'm assuming they're still giving us cash though, so we can still whinge? It has worked for Scotland!

I'd happily vote SNP if they put up candidates in Bolton... No prescription charges... No university fees...Prufrock wrote:Are we scottish now? Cut off London, that'll be a belting idea. I'm assuming they're still giving us cash though, so we can still whinge? It has worked for Scotland!

Re: The Politics Thread
Its an interesting argument the "London gives us loads of cash" one. Of course, you could argue that (for example's sake, this being a football forum) the redistributed money that was spent on New Wembley, enriching the local economy in the short and long term, by providing jobs and income to local businesses from travelling fans, would have as easily suited the local economies of both Birmingham or Covenry, for a fraction of the investment costs.
Or, if thats too subtle for you, its a groundless argument.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: The Politics Thread
As for how the money has been spent, fair play to the SNP, they have used it IMO very, very well. Still be a nice position to be in though. The one way money thing. And it is different England-Scotland than it is South England-North England LK.
It also seem fairly evident to me that the whole lot of us would be fooked without that London. I don't think this is a good thing, but I think it is a thing. It was decided by that crazy woman from the eighties we didn't need to make anything anymore. This brilliant idea was continued ever since, meaning our entire economy is based on hocus pocus number magic, and a service industry built around that hocus pocus number magic. All of which lives in London.
Domed we are. So are they, but in a white Elephant way.
I'm not, by the way, even arguing that this dependence on London means they should get all shit. 'Wembley' should have been in the Midlands, and the North-South divide, highlighted today, only looks like it is going to get worse. What I am saying is that if we could pull a Scotland, and get them to send us a load of free cash in return for hanging around, we'd be miles better off. I would have thought most would agree on that?
EDIT: My point is also that, given that is clearly not going to happen, I wish folk would stop whinging about that London. It's there, it has it's pluses as well as its minuses, even if it isn't ideal.

'I was always engaged by it' is a good one... (when talking to the writer of a play/book/poem you hate)... 'Best thing I've heard this year' is often useful on Jan 2nd...
I'm gonna start a North-South divide thread though and see how it runs...

Re: The Politics Thread
One of David Cameron’s most senior health advisers told a conference of health executives that the NHS will be privatised, advising representatives from healthcare companies of an impending goldrush in the wake of Andrew Lansley’s health reforms.
Mark Britnell was NHS director general for commissioning and system management before joining the private sector as global head of health at KPMG. He was recently appointed to a new panel of senior health policy experts by David Cameron, attending their first meeting last week.
According to the public relations industry monitoring site Spinwatch Britnell did not mince his words on privatisation when addressing a seminar called “Reform Revolution” at a conference for healthcare corporations:
“In future, the NHS will be a state insurance provider not a state deliverer.”
Delegates had been told the conference, run by $20 billion private equity firm Apax Partners, would cover ”business opportunities post global healthcare reform.” Britnell delivered the good, offering this deliciously off-message sound bite:
“The NHS will be shown no mercy and the best time to take advantage of this will be in the next couple of years.”

Surprise Surprise. And the only person who can stop Cameron and his motley crew from destroying this country piece by piece (they're already well along the way) is Clegg.thebish wrote:One of David Cameron’s most senior health advisers told a conference of health executives that the NHS will be privatised, advising representatives from healthcare companies of an impending goldrush in the wake of Andrew Lansley’s health reforms.

Just what the hell is up with you BWFCI? You seem to be on a one man crusade against any private company that makes proffits or are you a closet commie?
Tax and public funding = Good?
charging and proffit = bad?
Wheres choice fit in here for one?
I have no say in where a few tank topped bearded weird socialists and man hating lesbos spend my taxes do I?
Do I want billions spent in overseas wars in places we have no buisiness to be?
Why should the NHS treat druggies because they are spineless weak willed wasters who choose their poisen no one forces them same with alco's?
Why should I support some silly bitch and her sprogg because after a couple of tinnies she couldn't keep her legs shut or at least use the pill or johnnies?
Why should I pay for shitty oiks education when all they wanna do is march and trash peoples property then complain about police treatment?
Why is my money freely given to "poor" overseas countries who do little to halt the advance of those who hate everything I've got?
If this is the "Big Society" that you and others want then at least do the decent thing and allow a referendum to decide if we all want to join you and the communist party of GB!!!!!!
Feckin bullets look better by the day
Sorry I forgot to add about leaving the countrys front door open unlocked so all the vagabonds can nip in and rob us blind!!!!!

They are not "my Mob" bish, I have a dislike and distrust of anyone who "donates" their lives to public office it usually means they've spotted the way onto the "gravy train"

The "Big Society" that you lambast is Davey Cameron's big idea... why do you associate it with BWFCi?Hoboh wrote:thebish wrote:errr.. hoboh - the "Big Society" is what your mob want...

errr hoboh... the Communist Party of GB dissolved itself 20 years ago...
If all you are worried about is socialists in tank tops and militant lesbians, you can sleep easy in my view - they are a disappointingly small minority...
Still, at least the iranian justice system is doing plant hoboh proud - shame the soft b*stards decided against dripping the sulphuric acid into the criminals eyes...
