Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
This sounds like an instigated media release to fire a shot across our bows. "Look at us eh, we can buy anyone we want and for loads less than you want for Cahill. We don't want him or anything. Will you take 10?"
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

as DSB rightly points out - NOT getting the cash for cahill blows a MASSIVE hole in our squad-rebuilding plans....

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I hear good things from the low countries about Vertonghen. But yes, I'm hoping this is just a warning shot. I'm fairly sure Citeh would rather get a known EPL player, the failure rate of imports being higher than that of solid yeomen like Wayne Bridge, SWP, Bellamy, Lescott and... oh Christ.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
If nobody is willing to pay that cash now, keep him.
MAYBE we can convince him to sign a new contract, ensuring when he eventually goes, we definitely get some money.

Think it'd be a lost cause to get him on a new deal. City/Arsenal I'm sure would be quite comfortable to say, look, sign for us, we'll double whatever you're on and here's 5 million up front to get you started.

With Jones on his way, it appears, to Manure for £16m (after apparently turning down Arsenal and Liverpool) the young English centre half options are fast drying up for those clubs chasing our prized possession which makes our bargaining position stronger by the day.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Nixon's latest 'scoop' is 15M plus a couple of fringe players at Arsenal.
I'd guess the couple of fringe players equates to Carlos and Vela.
Although what went down in January isn't great for him, I wouldn't mind bringing him in, we're going to be very short up front as things stand, we'd need options and I suppose he's kind of a like for like replacement for Moreno.
To be honest, I'd much rather Cahill go to Arsenal than City, both for his career and for the fact Arsenal fans actually want him whereas City fans talk about him as if he's the second coming of Gerald Cid but at the end of the day, it's all about who wants to pay more. If Arsenal are prepared to match City, then fantastic.

If Cahill's not already married he needs to get a wife pretty damn quickly. Then he can cheat on her and will become a nailed on cert for the England captaincy.
That should boost the price and speed things along.

On the radio they were talking about a few deals being close to finalized. ManU, Liverpool and Arsenal all picked up young, English defenders. I think Arsenal's came from the championship. Does this change anything?jimbo_bwfc wrote:Nixon's latest 'scoop' is 15M plus a couple of fringe players at Arsenal.

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

not - Nixo claims - £15million PLUS players - but £15million cash OR a player exchange deal...
Wenger has also made a fresh move for classy Cahill, ironically after pulling out of a potential double deal for Samba and Jones.
The Gunners chief was not prepared to meet the valuation on England Under-21 prospect Jones, who is now believed to be heading for Manchester United.
Arsenal would like to take England squad-man Cahill for around £15m cash or throw some of their fringe players into a part-exchange package.
Bolton also have interest from Manchester City, which also includes exchanges, but the Gunners may appeal more to Cahill.

Ta. Note bold. Clause is £17m, if we're playing the Ali hardball...thebish wrote:not - Nixo claims - £15million PLUS players - but £15million cash OR a player exchange deal...Arsenal would like to take England squad-man Cahill for around £15m cash or throw some of their fringe players into a part-exchange package.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
and - as you pointed out elsewhere - reducing fairly rapidly to zero over time! Presumably we are allowed to take £15mill for him if we choose... it's just that we are not forced to allow them to speak to him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Ta. Note bold. Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I'd actually be hard pressed to think of who we'd want from Arsenal that they would throw into a potential part-ex deal - Assuming they would be fringe players.
Onuoha or Boyata / both from City plus cash is more appealing, but if this wont happen then maybe a straight cash sale for whoever wants him rather than taking players for the sake of it would be better. PROVIDING...it doesnt drag on.

I agree entirely. I'd MUCH rather have the cash and Coyle's freedom to find an up and coming cheapish option to replace Cahill than have to accept a player that might not quite fit and have to adapt the team around him....
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Agreed. We don't want arsenal defenders to replace him and the beauty of the City deal is we get cash and solve his replacement in one go. Straight cash is better, unless Arsenal have someone we actually have been looking at, not just "oh, we don't need him, ship him to bolton!"ohjimmyjimmy wrote:I'd actually be hard pressed to think of who we'd want from Arsenal that they would throw into a potential part-ex deal - Assuming they would be fringe players.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
If we're talking deals with the Arse, £12 million + Gibbs and I'd be happy.
