We've handled this very badly.

It seems like we need to sell him in order to get money for transfers this window, so that's not really an option. Plus, after all the quotes coming out of OC he's probably going to want away now and wouldn't sign a contract if we offered it to him.

The catch 22 is that we've been open to selling him for ages now but we want to do it when we have enough time to get replacements/other players. The teams that will probably spend the big bucks will probably only buy for big bucks near the end of the window, so we don't like that as it gives us no time to spend the money.

For the player himself it's a win-win. If he's not sold this window he can hold us to ransom for a better contract or go for a free and get a better contract.

It's awkward for our other central defenders. Is Cahill on the plane to the USA?
yeah, you cant blame other teams thinking cahill will not sign a new contract and we can wait to the last week of august and offer them something like 8-10 million and they wont have a choice but to sell him or lose him for free. But if i was Bolton i would offer him to clubs now and see who is interested and see what they are willing to pay. if someone was willing to pay 10-12 million for him now, I would just take it and move on.

I wonder if you'd apply that logic to Fabregas (who is desperate to leave) 30M- max. And Samir Nasri (last year of contract) 20M- max.

You're not Bolton so get back to the day job....the bogs are starting to smell

Secondly, in the face of stiff competition you are by far the most boring, numb as a piss-stone bastard on here

Fabregas No as he has 4 years left on his contract
Nasri yes....if he doesnt wanna stay, we have to sell him and get what we can for him.

Fabregas may have four years left but he wants to go to one club and one club only.

He was under par last year and is desperate to leave for (and only for) Barcelona.

Barcelona could put in a 20M offer, City a 60M offer. Arsenal can accept the City one all the like, Fabregas is just going to keep rejecting any other club's approach until he gets the move he wants to Barca.

His situation is even worse than only having a player with one year left, because he's made it quite clear he's only going to one other club. However much you get from that transfer depends on what Barca feel like offering you, not how many years he has left.

He's also a Yank, I would suspect. Since he keeps referring to clubs in the singular.

Which, whilst being grammatically correct, goes against the hundred odd years of tradition we have in this country of referring to them in the plural.

Oh well. Another sad glory-hunting Arsenal camp-follower. Easily ignored.

Not actually grammatically correct Puskas. Or rather using the plural isn't incorrect. There is a term I forget for singular nouns taking plural verbs when the refer to groups of people or things.

Anyway, he says "they".

Isn't that plural?

He writes things like
Bolton is way over valuing him. Also if you dont sell him, you gonna lose him on free next season....so whats the point? No player is worth the crazy sums that clubs with too much money pay for them these days. We don't and never have made the rules, we just follow them. Are you saying they should ...
Definitely a Yank.

I wouldn't want to comment on the state of his duvet. But you're probably right.

It'll have a picture of Cesc Fabregas on it, too.
