In terms of league goals:officer_dibble wrote:Nice reccomendation by her from keneckie (sp?) DSB...
im all for formation flexibility...i even accept your Heskey point, tough Engerlund were always miles better with Rooney there... But I just dont see 2 goal Holden, 2(?) goal mark davies and chungy/petrov firing the goals in. Sturridge up top being set up by those guys - now we aretalking. 451 int big sam days we were still relative low scorers but Stelios and Dioufy, Kev Nolan all excellent finishers. think we lack that from midfield at the moment. Maybe Holden cando it - he was too busy covering Muamba last season.
oh and on Muamba - he's a keeper for me on the basis he turned up and didnt hide like the rest of the pricks at wembley.
Stelios 4 goals per season av
Diouf 5 goals per season av
Nolan 4 goals per season av.
That's in a different formation, more conducive to scoring from midfield. Not a huge step up for our current midfielders should we change shape but I'm not sure I'd attach the adjective "excellent".

How many of our first XI would make the bench?
What about the Geovanni who ended up on loan at the Tractor Shaggers from Spurs after coming from Barca?
Just because he plays for them doesn't automatically mean he's going to tear it up in the Prem. Its a gamble.
That would be all well and good if we were assuming they were the only two options possibly available.

What, he asks for £1.5m and £40k per week, and we say 'feck that'?

I don't have those numbers, but I can steal Worthy's stats from another thread.Rodney Trotter wrote:You really are clueless about football Potter. Who ? Look at the stats and see how many goals Taylor helped create last season. The lad works his socks off and gets nothing but stick on here. Show me a better player for 2.2 million, who's available, doesn't want 40g + a week and of course 'puts a shift in'. Head and shoulders above N Reo-feckin-coker................
Petrov less games, more goals probs more assists
Football is a team game. You also need to take into account how often the left winger is helping out the left back, especially with the system we play. I'd really like to know how many we conceded last season with Petrov down the wing compared to when Taylor was playing.
Petrov (28 apps) - 36 attempted tackles, 10 attempted clearances, 1 block.
Taylor (36 apps) - 103 attempted tackles, 48 attempted clearances, 4 blocks.
CYL (31 apps) - 162 attempted tackles, 26 attempted clearances, 1 block.
Rodrigo (17 apps) - 56 attempted tackles, 5 attempted clearances, 0 blocks.
Key word is 'attempted'. It's not even that Petrov just isn't very good at winning tackles or trying to clear it, he just couldn't be arsed.
Anyway, the point is fairly irrelevant as no-one is going to bid for Petrov. I'd like us to keep Taylor, but on the face of it £2.2mil is good money for a player who we didn't break the bank for, and have had excellent service out of.

2 million is a cracking deal. But we'll regret getting rid of him. Mark my words.

Chelsea have put an official bid in for Lukaku(sp?). I wonder how long Sturridge is going to be willing to fight for his place?

not sure how we'll measure that other than with unprovable "if Matty were here, he'd have scored that..." type arguments...BwfcDan wrote:2 million is a cracking deal. But we'll regret getting rid of him. Mark my words.

Matty Taylor was back training with the reserves today so as all the speculation suggests he's off to West Ham to discuss personal terms.

Why would he train with the reserves rather than go down to London?

He's still contracted by our club so will still have to attend our training sessions. I'm guessing it was a quick morning session before popping down on the train for afternoon/evening negotiations.BWFC_Insane wrote:Why would he train with the reserves rather than go down to London?

because he did, i don't know why but i'm assuming there were still things to sort out with the transfer terms before the personal stuff could beginBWFC_Insane wrote:Why would he train with the reserves rather than go down to London?

Hey I'm not doubting you at all, you obviously know your stuff! And I think Matty Taylor for 2.2m is great business. He's not the same after his illness and we'd be lucky to get 200k for him in the not too distant future. I think that with the funds from AAH and now Taylor, we'll have enough to fight off any rival bids for Jeffren, and still have Cahill's fee (hopefully) to work with when we start filling in some of the other pieces.

I agree, it would make sense to do that but i hear the NRC deal is getting close so maybe that's the reasonBWFC_Insane wrote:Hey I'm not doubting you at all, you obviously know your stuff! Can't see why he's even up for sale tbh.
