im all for formation flexibility...i even accept your Heskey point, tough Engerlund were always miles better with Rooney there... But I just dont see 2 goal Holden, 2(?) goal mark davies and chungy/petrov firing the goals in. Sturridge up top being set up by those guys - now we aretalking. 451 int big sam days we were still relative low scorers but Stelios and Dioufy, Kev Nolan all excellent finishers. think we lack that from midfield at the moment. Maybe Holden cando it - he was too busy covering Muamba last season.
oh and on Muamba - he's a keeper for me on the basis he turned up and didnt hide like the rest of the pricks at wembley.

In terms of league goals:

Stelios 4 goals per season av
Diouf 5 goals per season av
Nolan 4 goals per season av.

That's in a different formation, more conducive to scoring from midfield. Not a huge step up for our current midfielders should we change shape but I'm not sure I'd attach the adjective "excellent".

Just because he plays for them doesn't automatically mean he's going to tear it up in the Prem. Its a gamble.

Assuming Taylor is already on his way.. What would you rather us do? Take a gamble on a lad who has borken into the best squad in world football, or persist with a bloke who proved last season that he wasn't good enough (despite the odd glimpse) and is in his 30's

If this report is true, then IMO Reo Coker would be a good signing for the right wages (I suspect that we would pay him a signing on fee as a free agent to compensate for the reduction in wages i.e. perhaps £1.5M up front then wages of around £40k a week) and he would add some much needed steel to the side, but with Pratley, Holden, Mark Davies & Muamba for 2 central midfield places in OC's rigid 4-4-2, it may perhaps signal the end for Muamba who IMO is by far the worst footballer of those players.

Who ? Look at the stats and see how many goals Taylor helped create last season. The lad works his socks off and gets nothing but stick on here. Show me a better player for 2.2 million, who's available, doesn't want 40g + a week and of course 'puts a shift in'. Head and shoulders above N Reo-feckin-coker................

You really are clueless about football Potter. I've said it before but your knowledge of the game could be written on the back of a postage stamp.

Football is a team game. You also need to take into account how often the left winger is helping out the left back, especially with the system we play. I'd really like to know how many we conceded last season with Petrov down the wing compared to when Taylor was playing.

I don't have those numbers, but I can steal Worthy's stats from another thread.

Petrov (28 apps) - 36 attempted tackles, 10 attempted clearances, 1 block.

Taylor (36 apps) - 103 attempted tackles, 48 attempted clearances, 4 blocks.

CYL (31 apps) - 162 attempted tackles, 26 attempted clearances, 1 block.

Rodrigo (17 apps) - 56 attempted tackles, 5 attempted clearances, 0 blocks.

Key word is 'attempted'. It's not even that Petrov just isn't very good at winning tackles or trying to clear it, he just couldn't be arsed.

Anyway, the point is fairly irrelevant as no-one is going to bid for Petrov. I'd like us to keep Taylor, but on the face of it £2.2mil is good money for a player who we didn't break the bank for, and have had excellent service out of.

He's still contracted by our club so will still have to attend our training sessions. I'm guessing it was a quick morning session before popping down on the train for afternoon/evening negotiations.

And I think Matty Taylor for 2.2m is great business. He's not the same after his illness and we'd be lucky to get 200k for him in the not too distant future. I think that with the funds from AAH and now Taylor, we'll have enough to fight off any rival bids for Jeffren, and still have Cahill's fee (hopefully) to work with when we start filling in some of the other pieces.
