This...but its unforgiveable to do it for the sake of saving say 500k and then not manage to do it in time and leave yourself short in key areas. Not so bad when you're chancing your arm at a player who you want but dont partocularly need, bargains can then be had at the last minute.BL3 wrote:...and your 'car' continues to depreciate in value. It works both ways.tell ben im him wrote:if i,m selling a car for 3 grand and you offer me a grand i will politely tell you to go fcuk yourself and keep it till i get a better offer. meanwhile back at the bus stop your getting piss wet through, but there will be a bus along soon wont there?
Prices will come down towards the end of the transfer window when clubs realise that if they don't sell, then they'll be stuck with players they don't really need.
It's always the same. Clubs have months to get deals done and yet they're desperately trying to register players 5 minutes before the transfer window shuts... or in Arsenal's case, 5 weeks after it's already closed.
Re: The TRUTH re Money
I doubt we're doing it 'to save £500K'. More likely we've been quoted £8M for Cameron Jerome. Would you be happy if we paid that? If he hasn't been sold by deadline day, Birmingham will probably have to accept a lot less. Same principle applies to Cahill.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:This...but its unforgiveable to do it for the sake of saving say 500k and then not manage to do it in time and leave yourself short in key areas. Re: The TRUTH re Money
Would you be happy with doing that, leaving all business til deadline day, based on 'probably' ? Lets be sensible. Nobodys expecting an 8m player to go for 2m at the last minute. It's if you've quibbled over 500k/1m a few weeks hence, hoping to save this on TDD and then running out of time which is not 'canny' .BL3 wrote:I doubt we're doing it 'to save £500K'. Re: The TRUTH re Money
I think we've got the money we've brought in from player sales plus whatever we get from Cahill (if anything). Eddie has probably said that if we're struggling to match valuations on players we want, then he'll advance the cash and hope he gets it back if and when Cahill is sold. Coyle obviously doesn't think that the players he's targeting are worth the money he's being quoted. It's all a game of bluff between clubs at the moment... who will blink first?Worthy4England wrote:So have we got any money or not?
Re: The TRUTH re Money
What makes you think he's going to risk waiting until deadline day? I'm sure that he's got more than one striker in mind.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Would you be happy with doing that, leaving all business til deadline day, based on 'probably' ? Lets be sensible. If Birmingham won't budge on their valuation, then they may be stuck with a player that they desperately need to sell. It works both ways.

Re: The TRUTH re Money
(?) you're the one who brough up the issue of possibly waiting to bid for Jerome on Deadline day ! I never said in particular that Coyle was going to do this, just that if he did, and for the sake of saving a few bob when he was given the authority to spend it...then it wouldnt be, you know, that good really. And certainly not Jerome, cos i imagine we're way apart in valuations and am happy for it to stay that way.

Re: The TRUTH re Money
No i didn't. I said if he hasn't been sold by deadline day then Birmingham will have to accept a lot less than they are currently asking for. I expect that OC will move on to other targets.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:(?) you're the one who brough up the issue of possibly waiting to bid for Jerome on Deadline day !
Birmingham have a choice, either they accept a more realistic offer now, or they risk losing him for even less on deadline day, if they're desperate to sell him.
You imply that we're trying to save paltry amounts of £500K-£1M. I'm suggesting that we are much further apart on valuations than that.

I did not 'imply' this, you 'inferred' it. I'm saying IF we do, or a club does in general, then its stupid and risky and dangerous and can backfire.BL3 wrote:No i didn't. So you weren't actually talking about Coyle... except when you were. Glad we've cleared that up then.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:I never said in particular that Coyle was going to do this, just that if he did, and for the sake of saving a few bob when he was given the authority to spend it...then it wouldnt be, you know, that good really

Y'Know I don't think anyone really got to the bottom of that. Maybe LK or BWFCi can clear it up for us!Worthy4England wrote:So have we got any money or not?

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
