Re: Here we go
Have just received text from good, good friend in Haringey... 'We're ok... Our area is ruled by Turkish mafia who control all drugs and prostitution and won't allow old bill or rioters on their patch... Could be the safest place in London...'

I confess that the phrase " shown a very heavy hand" was not my original wording.William the White wrote:A reasoned post... We are in for several days of non-reason, i fear... The sufferers will be the ordinary people of these areas... There are several candidates for the scumbag description in Britain... I include the looters...Wandering Willy wrote:I regard myself as a peaceful man and would rather use negotiation than violence to sort out problems. There are many reasons for social unrest which are best tackled at source and can vary from community to community be it better policing, improved living conditions, jobs, social benefits etc.
Having said that looters are scumbags and need to be shown a very heavy hand if necessary.
They're dirty, they're filthy, they're never gonna last.
Poor man last, rich man first.

Now Birmingham and Croydon... Just smashing shop windows and grabbing what they can... Looters, that's all, with no other agenda...

These people don't want an excuse, nor need one... They want mobiles, trainers, whatever... They aren't causing 'disruption. - they are on a robbing spree... Start of, end of...Annoyed Grunt wrote:Slightest excuse to cause a disruption.

You're just all rioter bashing now.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I know... Maybe I should nip down and tell em to stop nicking things for themselves, erect barricades and face the oppressive forces of the state by flinging trainers, mobiles and expensive carpets their way...Lord Kangana wrote:You're just all rioter bashing now.

Re: Here we go
Long talk with my middle daughter just now, who lives in Bethnal Green. She's been watching from her third floor flat window as looters carrying bin bag after bin bag walked down her street... Including one guy who, in a Porsche, came back for a second loot... filling the car to the brim...
She called the cops who said: We're aware of this but we're dealing with matters of life and death and can't do anything for you...
They're right, of course...

Plenty of people urging Manchester to stay calm and not join in.
This is on Twitter though, I'd be surprised if any rioters can actually read.

Manchester will be on it by midnight... These aren't 'rioters' - they are looters, and twitter is one of the ways they organise it... they can read all right, you bet...keveh wrote:Plenty of people urging Manchester to stay calm and not join in.

Bit better than Boris, who's decided not to cut short his holiday as the police are doing a grand job.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Looks like David Cameron has cut short his holiday.....and he thought the worst that could happen was not tipping the waitress.

We should just put rioters in charge of the investigation.William the White wrote:I know... And pay them well. Otherwise, how would they do a good job of sorting out the problems they created?

That would only work as long as we didn't over-burden them by expecting them to pay for all the damage caused. We should probably pick up that tab ourselves. What do you reckon?
