Liverpool laughing stocks?

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

As John W Henry, the club's principal owner, said recently: "The worst surprise [following FSG's takeover last October] was the lack of depth in the squad. Our biggest concern in taking on this responsibility was this issue and it was a bigger issue than we feared. There was a huge multi-year payroll for a squad that had very little quality depth."

The free signings Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic, for example, earn £100,000 and £120,000 a week at Liverpool respectively, although the latter's
astonishing salary includes a signing-on fee payable over the first 12 months of his contract
No, that's not shite - you always pay free transfers more than you do players that you've bought, precisely because you're saving money on transfer fees. That's the whole point of how the Bosman rule's been used for ages. Which is why I was so sceptical of Joe Cole's move around this time last year when everyone was proclaiming it as a bargain and a brilliant move.

As to whether the figures are right my guess is that they're likely to be inflated, because players' wages are always inflated in the media. I don't know why they've decided to include Jovanovic's signing on fee in his monthly wage (all players have signing on fees, typically paid over a period of time). I'd imagine Jovanovic to be on a much lower basic wage than Cole (and I bet the latter's signing on fee isn't taken into account in that £100k figure quoted above, either). Either do both or neither, because that doesn't make for a fair comparison of their respective costs.

6 million on Jovanovic

So what has he recouped then? Only, if his spending is net £57m, he'd better bloody get that CHampions League place or there'll be egg on the face of a few down the Anfield Road.

I'm thinking of opening a florists in the Anfield area around next April/May.

The queue's to lay wreaths to their fckd up club will be humungous.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

They looked very very good the first 30 minutes or so. By the end they looked rather lost.

Rather better than decent I'd say. It was a real belter. Nolan once did something similar against..Blackburn?

Odd game. Straightest of straight reds not given. Pool dominated the game, but, if Seb Larsson's goal had been scored by, say Wayne Rooney, against, say Man City, they'd still be wanking over it

It was a brilliant goal.

Doubt that Liverpool will be panicing that much though after that game. They started off very well. That Henderson fella based upon his first game should be loaned out to Blackpool or similar type team though. Would have had a better chance to win if he was not on the pitch. 20m and based upon yesterday's performance was fit to shine the boots of Eagles or Coker.

If Muamba had attempted that, the ball would still be going up in the air now
