Trying to find the positives, although I sat through that aswell. It was away at Anfield, did we expect to get anything?
Next home game we'll be better. Maybe with Cahill and those distractions behind us.

Moreover, we're still in profit for all of Coyle's dealings over the majority of 4 transfer windows. Not the £20m in the red that was spent in the previous 4 to get us to the point where we needed to overhaul.
It was fairly obvious that we had to add strength to a previously weak midfield squad. We have.
Its still fairly obvious that we need to add strength to a weak forward line squad. We're still looking,
And we've had terrible luck with injuries in key areas.
All in all, with the tools at his disposal, he's done a great job in the transfer market.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

We simply can't go away from home, against a team playing 4-5-1 (with an energetic Kuyt popping up all over the place) with that porous midfield, with those strikers who can't keep hold of the ball for more than two touches and expect to get anything.
Days like today are disappointing. We can bemoan the squad all we like, but today tactical naivity has yet again played its part.

the difference today was the same the difference that seperated us from City.... the class of player....... and plus the way we set up didn't help, they were always going to have suarez dropping off into the hole but we didn't do anything to defend against it!
move onto next week when we face United.... :/

We may still have lost if we packed the midfield, but at least it wouldn't have been with such a feckin' whimper. It's safe to say, that our midfield is our strongest are of the squad. Yet we play 2 players there.
We pretty much lined up with a 4-2-4 today. Against a 5 man midfield full of energy, fitness and quality. How did Coyle think that Muamba and Reo-Coker could combat that???

Re: Us Vs The Red Scousers
It was as bad as everybody says. Twas like a comedy festival: Comic Kuts, Keystone Cops, Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, they were all there. Pathetic marking, hapeless passing, wild hoofs on the nowhere train and all with the energy of a pensioners day out to Bournmouth. I've seen more exciting Curling matches. We were made to look very fourth division by a team who played football with purpose and commitment. Somebody claimed "a yard too slow"; make that three. How very intelligent of Zat to keep trying high-line defending against players who could give him five yards start in a ten yard race. Kev Davies looking disinterested? Who wouldn't be in a role that was never going to work? Keep banging high balls at him when he's sandwiched between two defenders who know they'll get the edge. What happens when he does manage to get a head on it? Nobody near him. It's a bad system that will probably never work again because every team can predict it. If the ball's going long somebody has to be there and, quite truthfully, how many times was somebody there? We were run ragged and totally out-played allover the park.
Four passes across midfield and the fifth put out for a throw; four passes and back to Jussi. It was laughable. Petrov starting runs from his own eighteen yard line and nobody finding space to take passes. It's not often I feel sick, have a headache and stomach-ache all together during a football match. To make it worse, I watched it with a Scouse supporter. He's a decent bloke and didn't rub it in like I probably would have had it been the other way round; he didn't really need to. No MOTD for me. No contest. Roll on next week. If anybody can find positives today, answers by pm and a video of the last FA Cup semi-final as prize for the best one.
Gutted.

Alonso is also injured.
But to answer that directly, both our first choice centre halves were the two most expensive of all our centre halves, our current right back cost £3.5m...
Again, with the tools at his disposal.

Some positives, Holden to come back, we aren't Blackburn, Klasnic looks set to score 38 goals this season.

If Holden had played today he'd probably be looking for a transfer.Beefheart wrote:Some positives, Holden to come back, we aren't Blackburn, Klasnic looks set to score 38 goals this season.

Re: Us Vs The Red Scousers
Perhaps, but I think with Holden fit, there'd be too much strength in midfield to persist with 4-4-2. Reo-Coker, Holden and Mark Davies in the middle could be great.TANGODANCER wrote:If Holden had played today he'd probably be looking for a transfer.Beefheart wrote:Some positives, Holden to come back, we aren't Blackburn, Klasnic looks set to score 38 goals this season.
Re: Us Vs The Red Scousers
We can't go away from home playing a 4-4-2 formation, I know Owen is trying to be expansive but that's the reason we only won two away all last season.
We move onto the next game now against ManUre.
But a more fluid 4-2-3-1 formation away from home has to be tried

Re: Us Vs The Red Scousers
Hadn't had the money? He spent £2m on Alonso ffs. One for the future he said, when we all know Paul Robinson isn't good enough. That money should have gone on a full back who was ready to compete for Robinson's place then and now, not in a few years time.Beefheart wrote:Not you, Rodney. Fair enough, he's been unlucky with Mears.
He's bought Wheater, and not played him. Well he did, and he played well. Soon as Knight is fit, he drops him. Why? Zat Knight is an absolutley terrible defender. Wheater had done nothing wrong when he played.
Coyle is so insistent on playing his favourites (Knight, Robinson, Muamba and Davies) and on 4-4-2 away from home that it is going to cost us a lot points this season.
Don't get me wrong, he has done a brilliant job since he came in. But he is a young manager who is learning and he is obviously going to make mistakes. But he isn't learning from them which is the worrying thing.
