Comes across as a bit arrogant. That though is probably a pre-requisite for a manager. I don't think the football he plays is the problem, I think he struggles to manage relationships with players over longer periods, especially when things go wrong for periods of time.
If he gets Wednesday up though, he's done a cracking job....

He'll get Wednesday up.
It'll go pear shaped.
He'll be sacked.
It'll all be the fans fault.

Brilliant job with the highest wage budget in the division at the biggest club.

That was the case before he turned up though. And they were near the bottom....Lord Kangana wrote:Brilliant job with the highest wage budget in the division at the biggest club.

He may be a c*nt but thats irrelevant if he does a decent job.
Did what he was asked here until his final season...

Nope, just an average football manager who will have a mixed career before retiring.Lord Kangana wrote:With (drum role please) a big budget.

Give any manager 30M in the premiership to replace an entire team, It's not a big budget and most would take that team down..

We played some good stuff under him. See Spurs and City games at home as examples. Some football was very good.Bruce Rioja wrote:Deary fecking meBWFC_Insane wrote:I don't think the football he plays is the problem

Some of it was tosh.
I don't think we've seen anything significantly better football wise since. I'm not alone in that opinion either.
But taking all that opinion away, it was certainly no worse than the football Allardyce played. Results will always determine the football that can be played anyhow, as we're seeing this season.

You're welcome to opinion, Chief, as we all are, but do please stop putting yours across like it's the authorised version of events, it's very annoying.
Just saying like.

And your last sentence there completely contradicts itself.

Surely that "I think/don't think" reflects it as an opinion....
Perhaps my opinion on Megson on this site is not welcome. I get that. Folk think I liked him, which isn't true. I just saw him as a very very average football manager doing his best at a struggling premiership side who would not be there for that long in the ever revolving door of management......
Good luck to him, he's not someone I could get remotely close to hating, or loving or even liking. I was ambivalent towards him, which perhaps was his biggest problem with the fans, not enough character for grudging admiration and not enough skill for adulation...who knows....

I think some of the confusion comes from you wishing Megson all the best and then proclaiming that you hope Coyle's reputation is so damaged that he becomes a football pariah and never works in football again...

Coyle despite his failings with us this season still gets support in the media, from fans etc...and is still to an extent the golden boy.
Megson had all the hate he needed elsewhere...
Coyle has all the sychophantic "he's a nice guy" media support excuse laden love-in he needs elsewhere.
Just trying to balance things up a bit....

Megson had all the money and had us 19th. Coyle didn't, and has us 19th. Please attempt some consistency.

Re: Megson Watch
Just so you know, in my opinion the football was that bad under Megson (5 across midfield at home to a Sunderland, Blackburn et al, anyone?) that I stopped going. After 35 years and all four divisions I actually couldn't take any more. THAT bad.BWFC_Insane wrote:Ermm have I done that?Bruce Rioja wrote:Nixon agrees does he?BWFC_Insane wrote:We played some good stuff under him. See Spurs and City games at home as examples. Now, explain this if you'd be so good - Results will always determine the football that can be played anyhow, as we're seeing this season.
So your saying that if a side's bottom of the league then they play shit football, but you also say that it was no better under Allardyce. Errr, didn't we qualify for Europe twice under Allardyce?
What's it to be then? You can't have it both ways.

Megson bought an entire team with 30M.
Coyle with about half has brought, half a team or less....
As I say give most managers £30M and say that over 3 seasons they will replace virtually an entire squad give or take, in the premiership, and they'll struggle.
Coyle has had somethings going for him that Megson did not and vica versa...
Megson had the Lee mess to deal with a host of absolutely pish signings to move out with, losing his best player after a few months, fans against him, a complete squad re-haul...
Coyle has admittedly had less money to shape the team in his image, but retained a more solid core to the squad, has been asked to lower the age of the team, inherited a squad low on confidence and some players who were not up to what he wanted to do...
TBH in my opinion if you rolled Megson's pragmatism and toughness into Coyle's enthusiasm and drive you'd probably have an excellent premiership manager!

Re: Megson Watch
Bruce all's I meant was that if you're fighting relegation you tend not to have the confidence to play exciting free-flowing football, nor the ability...IMO the football we've seen at times this season has been as directionless and insipid as I can remember....but I think its the situation rather than the intent....Bruce Rioja wrote: Just so you know, in my opinion the football was that bad under Megson (5 across midfield at home to a Sunderland, Blackburn et al, anyone?) that I stopped going. Given the results he had Allardyce was best placed of any manager we've had to introduce "more variety" but he didn't seem that way inclined...

I just think blindly stating how much the two spent without the context behind it, is fruitless.

Re: Megson Watch
Whats the context though? We were 19th when Coyle arrived, how is that significantly better than the mess Megson took over? Its just nonsense to state they were better players, theres not a shred of evidence in how the team was performing to support that claim. In the meantime he spent more money than any manager of this club has ever had. I fail to see my own inconsistency in demanding more from a manager with a wealth of resources failing to produce substantially better results than those without.
