What's hip-hop?Armchair Wanderer wrote:Anyone heard of Roots Manuva? I was arguing with someone last night that he's good (what I've heard), but the first album is the only non-cheesy one. Stuff like Witness the fitness and Dreamy Days (2nd album) may well be good but it's very cheesy in my opinion, especially compared to the 1st album which is good and non-cheesy.
Anyone got an opinion on what is cheese in hiphop?

Aha, I'm out of the loop these days but just looked this up and it sounds good.Little Green Man wrote:Don't have any of the solo albums but last year's Roots Manuva collaboration with Wrongtom still sounds good to me.
If you like the dub/hiphop combo check out "Mos Dub" if you haven't already.

That whooshing noise you just heard was the above going right over my head

Balloon Astronomy album called, amazingly, Balloon Astronomy.
Now, I'd fully sympathise is it's not for you, but if you were/are a Genesis, Tull type stuff & you've missed it over the years .... here it is.
Give it a listen if you are of that type.

I might just at that. Not a great Genesis fan (duke is the only album in my collection) but I do like a bit of Tull.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
went to get the only copy of $9 NEW Dr Who Wii game, gone! none left in Melbourne!
Cured my depression by going to JB and getting some bargains.
Bad Religion - The Process of Belief $4
The Clash - An Actual album (Not Hits/Singles!) $4
Black Label Society $4
Gridlocked Soundtrack $3 this was a present, there were two one was without a price tag so I made sure to take both to registers to get the non tag one and then put the other back. So I can get it next time!
didn't Buy:
a $2 CD that I didn't know what it was, but had a song named the same as my Son!
Sick of It All - $6
~Yesterday I went for a drive by myself, So I played the New Deicide Album I got for Christmas.
Got to hear every Song, though not in full.

Nick Drake - Pink Moon. Chilled, thoughtful, considered and just about suits my Monday evening mood.

Has anybody else come across Laura Marling? Excellent acoustic singer, most of her stuff is actually quite dark; smatterings of violins and a rarely used drum beat to accompany the guitar, very good easy listening...

Avoid listening to any interviews though ... dead behind the eyes.

Listened to Bandstand by Family earlier. About 1972, with the magnificent Burlesque as the best known track.
Then gave 'You Are Not Alone' by Mavis Staples a listen. Most excellent.

I wouldn't let her hear you describe her music as "easy listening". Bit harsh....truewhite15 wrote:Has anybody else come across Laura Marling? Re: What are you playing tonight?
I once bought an album by a singer called Lene Marlin on the back of one decent track. A dreadful mistake!BWFC_Insane wrote:I wouldn't let her hear you describe her music as "easy listening". That sitting down here? I always think people mean her when they say Laura.

If you still have it, its probably worth a few bob. Can't be many of them around. Laura Marling is very definitely not her though, she is good. Folk. Like.
