We knew what we were getting when we brought him in. That was the first stage of the post-BSA transition. Ageing squad etc etc.

He did some unfathomable things, but so does Coyle. The bit at the end of the "spotlight" interview was nearer to the point about it being more than managing a team, you have to look right (and say the right things in the media). Personally, I didn't really like him at WBA and I wasn't thrilled with him being at Bolton but he kept us up and wasn't that terrible overall.

Who's picking the team for Saturday? Eddie Davies, Gartside or Coyle? makes you wonder if its worth going

I seem to recall that a lot of Bolton supporters said that they would never forgive him for what HE did in that europe game.
Now that he tells us that the chairman suggested he did said deed we simply say "oh get over it"
Ok he wasnt the best manager we have ever had, but who knows what other decisions the chairman "suggested" to him along the way.

Someone (I can't remember who) summed it up well earlier:

When Allardyce left, the club was in crisis especially with the loss of the backroom staff and subsequent pillaging of players. It was clear that Allardyce's reign was by the end completely unsustainable, with the emphasis being on the 'now' rather than the future, a trend he took to Newcastle, Blackburn and now seemingly West Ham.

Lee was the wrong choice, but that was quickly rectified thankfully.

Megson came in and steadied the ship for a couple of years even if it wasn't pretty and he spent too much money in the process. He did however buy some good young players for the medium term. on Garty/Eddie's orders, I presume - M Davies, LCY, Cahill - but by the end it was clear that the ship was sinking.

Coyle has followed this trend of youth even more wholeheartedly by getting rid of the final remnants of the Allardyce era and doing a further rebuild whilst looking more towards the long-term. This season has very much been one of transition, this is apparent by the gradual phasing out of the aging players from the Allardyce/Megson era over the past few weeks without an adverse effect on our results.

View from his current supporters - needless to say they don't like us. Funnily enough though, I remember most of that board wanted Megson out after a 5-1 defeat earlier this season and he's one of 'theirs'.

Fans are a fickle bunch, and we're not alone in that. That said, there were only a few in the 'idiot crew' at the beginning so to tar us all with the same brush is utterly unreasonable. However, had they given him less abuse at the start, this interview would likely have never happened.

I just hope the Wednesdayites are having fun losing to Bury, that's all.

Radio Manchester invited him for an interview. They asked the questions.

Whats he meant to say? He can hardly go on a program about Greater Manchester football and say he only wants to talk about Sheffield Wednesday.

In theory a fair point .... but equally, when Radio MANCHESTER asked him if he'd do an interview, what did he expect ? To be asked questions about Sheffield Wednesday ?

He had the option to say no. He should have taken it.

He has to be the bitterest of bitter people.

I'm very much of the view that he was poorly treated when he arrived and some people, some on here, were almost eager for him to fail. Also, however he took NO steps to bridge that divide, to link to the fans and to treat us with respect.

In the end he became a cartoon version of his image and fulfilled all the worst points those who didn't want him predicted.

We went to Red Star Belgrade (and were the) first team ever that had won (there) in over 100 years.
