Pleased that it was good. I've had that crab pasta dish and it is truly sublime.Bruce Rioja wrote:Thanks for the heads-up on this one, Fella. They (and I) absolutely loved it. Fantastic place, service and food. I had pasta with crab claw meat, tomatoes, garlic and chilli. It was that good that I didn't want to send any back and tried to finish it all (and failed) despite being as full as an egg. My guests spoke to all the waiters in Italian - I was hoping that they might have caught one or two out ("Mi name's not really Giuseppe, it's Carl") but nopeBWFC_Insane wrote:San Carlo.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm tasked with looking after a couple of Italian visitors next week. Where's the best place to take them in Manny for lunch on Wednesday? Think on, lunch not dinner. Expense isn't a concern. Gang? Does Albert's Shed do lunch?
Mancini in there a lot.
Only trouble with San Carlo is I never really fancy going to an Italian restaurant now, unless it's San Carlo....

Perfectly understandable. I still recommend San Marino at Belmont as well if you haven't tried it already, it's excellent. Just found out when chatting to Our Kid that San Carlo is the only place in Manny where his F-i-L (Italian fella, salt of the Earth) will eat.BWFC_Insane wrote: Pleased that it was good. And the bechamel sauce?Gooner Girl wrote:Well the pasta was from a packet, not mastered that yet! and the tomato sauce was also from a jar but i put it all together!jaffka wrote:from scratch or a packet?Gooner Girl wrote:Just made lasagne (for first time ever...) Was delicious!

Actually, I tried to make my own bechamel once and it was an absolute disaster that ended up all over the kitchen. There were bits of it that I had to get off with a wallpaper scraper!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Tonight was just one of my favourites - what have we got going in the fridge?
Turned out as... Courgette salad, red pepper salad, humus, garlic dip, chicken marinaded in garlic, chilli, cumin, coriander, olive oil, then griddled, lettuce, french dressing, smoked salmon with pesto and garlic, and breadsticks and toasted hovis... Was going to do a little blue cheese but too full... who needs balance and stuff?
Macon Villages from France and Aldi...

Actually, what GG is describing there is a sauce Mornay. A basic Bechamel is just butter, flour and milk. For Bruce's reference, if you make sure all the ingredients (butter/flour mix and milk) are seperately hot before combining them, you shouldn't go far wrongLittle Green Man wrote: And the bechamel sauce?
