I think your missing my overall point, Plymouth, though that'll be my fault for having made it so poorly. Sam Allardyce embodied a spirit whereby the aims of the club were sold to players deemed ordinarily to be 'out of our league', and we reached Europe twice and a cup final. I said at the beginning of last season when I saw the likes of Pratley, Eagles, Mears et al turning up that if we continue to bring in Championship footballers then there's only one place we'll end up playing our football, and without a single hint of I-told-you-so-ism, this has proved to be the case.plymouth wanderer wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Yes. Loaning players off of Leicester and people on here getting giddy at the prospect? 4uck me!
Who do you reckon we should sign to get us promoted
The signals being sent out, to me anyway, when I look at who Coyle's now trying to bring in are that we/he has a lack of any ambition whatsoever, and that if that's not the case and he thinks that he has the ability to turn work-a-day dross into a decent footballing outfit then Coyle is one highly deluded plum!
May the bridges I burn light your way

hmmm...
I can understand the point - and well made it is..
but - the allardyce model for promotion is not the only one..
Coyle has also got a side promoted to the premiership - and to do it, he used what would then and now be described as championship players... he did not draft in fading global superstars...

Well why didnt he sign for him then?thebish wrote:Worthy4England wrote:

Zat Knight is only pitching up at our place cos he couldnt find another easy ride for next year.
As for Championship signings at least Mills is try before you buy, though thete will be a fee involved. You sign what you can and we need to develop some stars to progress but need some backbone first and foremost. A mix of experience (including champo experience) and talented youth and we should be up there. Whether we are or not is down to the manager.

Aye - Zat Knight is not as bad as some make out.
He seems to getting the same undeserved vitriol that the great PR4 got.

I get Bruce's point but I think he is confusing what Allardyce did for us in the championship and the premiership. As a champ side he signed Ricketts from Wallsall, and the likes of Barness, Charlton, Gareth Farelly etc.....
Hardly a string of ambition chasing dream targets more realistic players to help make us strong enough to go back up.
Same with what Coyle is trying to do. Though Sams judgement a lot more sound than Owens!

Nowt to do with money grabbing
if a prem club had offered zat a deal he would of been off, I wouldnt of blamed him.
He had a month between us offering a deal and his response. Were he that keen to stay he eould of signed up earlier. I very much doubt Allardyce or any other prem manager offered him a deal, hence why he is at our place.

Mills and Ream - sounds like a romantic pairing ate the heart of our defence

Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
As noted, the deal for Mills sounds ideally structured for us. And while I'm not a massive fan of Knight, I think he'll have enough about him for this level – if selected ahead of Mills and Ream.
Caution advised with Wheater though - the BN piece says "New Year return" but that doesn't mean he'll be back before the Christmas tree's out, just that he's back next year. Besides, we should have learned from Stuey that returns are by no means guaranteed to be on schedule.

Only 6 weeks to go til season starts proper, be nice to find out soon how Stuey & LCY's progress is.
Although nobody will be match-fit when they all get back together in July, those two will be less so than most...which is assuming Stuey is even up to full training level yet? At least we know LCY is.

Just hope nobody in the team thinks it'll be less than tough down here. Bags of effort needed and an early start to winning ways. Coyle should at least know these ropes.

It looks like Sturridge will leave Chelsea. They want quite a lot of money for him though, so if nobody comes for him, what are the odds Chelsea will want to loan him out again?
Maybe I'm dreaming

Just to come late to the wild and joyous party - I'm chuffed Zat has signed. He'll do a real good job for us. Feel free to bookmark anyone that wants.

I'm with you on this one, there was never much between him and wheater in my opinion. An england capped center back can pull his weight at this level and will.William the White wrote:Just to come late to the wild and joyous party - I'm chuffed Zat has signed. Pleased enough with Zat's decision to re-sign, he's more capable than most centre-back's in this division, at least in terms of talent if not concentration.

He has the ability...just needs to 'man up' and take on some responsibility.William the White wrote:Just to come late to the wild and joyous party - I'm chuffed Zat has signed. He'll do a real good job for us. Feel free to bookmark anyone that wants.
