Pretty much what he said at the fans forum that tactics and systems are unimportant it's players performing that matter.

Sadly he hasn't in his clearly very limited mind been able to link the two.

Owen Coyle hasn't got a clue.

It's pretty worrying that that has come out of his mouth.

Agreed! Starting to look like he's burying his head in the sand now.

Continues to blame players for his stupid decisions. I would be very surprised if he still has the dressing room. By now the players must be seriously doubting his credibility like most of us are.

Ah right. In that case, it's over. I've been one of his last defenders (ha!), but he's lost me now. In Last Post style tribute, permit me a small self-quote, and bollocks to internet protocol:
In his Crawley match report, Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Let us be perfectly clear about this. Owen Coyle lost this game of football. Having started with a 4-5-1 that was working, he once more dismantled the midfield to reassert his holy orders of 4-4-2, whereupon Bolton turned 1-0 into 1-2. On more than a few painful occasions Coyle's psychological shackling to 4-4-2 has brought substitutions which have turned draws into defeats; here it went further and turned a lead to a loss.

And so it comes to this. I fear the team I love is being managed by a damaged man. Coyle's complete one-eyed obsession with 4-4-2 is anachronistic, counterproductive and dragging this club down the divisions. It may have worked in the olden days but so did sundials. Sundials still work, but not when it's cloudy.

I'm not a man given to hyperbole, so heed my words carefully: Coyle's decision to weaken the midfield is the single worst managerial move I have ever seen. I fear we are being run by a maniac. If he doesn't acknowledge that he made a mistake, I hereby lose all my faith in him and, with heavy heart, join the Coyle Out chorus.
Coyle out.

I know Redknapp talks about systems not being important, mostly to portray the image of a cheeky chappy man of the people, but while tactical theory aren't his strength he does actually subtly move things around, especially in-game. It's the reading of the game which Coyle seems to lack.

It's what makes football interesting that the game has managers like Bielsa and Coyle in the same business, both seemingly on the wrong side of the middle ground of exerting control and directing players.

and I speak of those two only as a contrast in style rather than comparison of achievement, obviously.

Does anyone have a contact address for Gartside ?

I've watched this lot since 1962 and I've never come near to writing to the club & there have been some pretty dark times in all that but I'm watching a man disassemble my club and there is still time to stop it.

Could be wrong, probably am, but I think the hiring/sacking of managers has to at least be ok'ed by ED. If Eddie wanted him gone he'd be gone because he'd be paying for a replacement. Last season via Stuart Hall he was saying he couldn't afford to sack Coyle. Not sure if anything's changed yet this season.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Later maybe, but you can imagine the general tenor.

It was however, very polite.

I would have said David James as center forward, except for the fact that it almost worked.

Aye, but only of the U21's. He could be tempted.

Nah, he couldn't, I know, but it's nice to pretend we have that pulling power sometimes...
