Re: Liverpool laughing stocks?
I thought Rodgers came across as likeable and thoughtful, if Dalglish did this he would've have been hated even more. Not sure about his self portrait though!
There were way too many fluff segments with the players families. Other than that it is an insight you normally don't get. I'll probably watch the next episode.

.... & their home grown sports are funded, massively, by TV money which would make Sky wince.Prufrock wrote:They keep chucking out this statistic that it's the most widely played sport over there now. If that is the case, then it will catch on. There is a reason it's massive the world over, and that's because it is a brilliant game; there's also a reason their sports haven't caught on across the world, and that's because they're shit!
It's widely played by boys, right up to the age of about 14 when it becomes largely a girly game.
When they say it's the most played sport they mean at school level & count GG style footy. Not as we know it.

I think it is only recently that it has exploded at the young age groups though. Previous attempts to crack America have focussed on big names and drawing the crowds rather than getting people playing it. I can't see how all these kids are going to give up the best game on the planet to go and play girly rounders, girly rugby, Hockey on Ice or that one where you have to be at least 6'6" to play. Plenty still will, no doubt, tempted by the money and the college scholarships, but football will get there I think.

There've been people saying this since the 1950's .... probably before. It simply never happens.

But historically football catches on where it is played in large numbers. Previous attempts to 'crack America' have focussed on crowds, rather than players. As far as I know, football has never been any where this widely played in America.

I tell you what, put a marker in the 'predictions' thread.
If domestic league football in the USA has taken off in 10yrs time I'll but you a 12 box of Krispy Creme's.
For the purpose of definition "taken off" means on a par with US Football (aka Rugby), Baseball (aka Rounders) and Basketball (aka very tall men running to one end and scoring, followed by another load of very tall men running down the other end .... and scoring).
On a par ... wages, fans, income, tv interest.
In fact ... fck it .... 20 years.

Red card? Not in a million, zillion years for me.
Something needs sorting. Luiz should have gone yesterday and gotten a really lengthy ban for what was a terrible challenge.
Shelvey for me, wasn't even a yellow....

For the purpose of definition;
i. "taken off" means on a par with US Football (aka Rugby), Baseball (aka Rounders) and Basketball (aka Netball for geezers, where very tall men run to one end and score, followed by another load of very tall men running down the other end .... and scoring).
ii. On a par ... wages, fans, income, tv interest.
