I've no doubt they're looking to do it this season, but i doubt it's the be-all and end-all in appointing the manager.BL3 wrote:Every indication is that they're looking at winning promotion this season. I suspect the board are looking a little more long-term (but no longer than 2 years) but granted no experience whatsover is not a good selling-point for the project.
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I suspect that it's the only criteria, given that it will be much more difficult next season, otherwise they might as well have perservered with Coyle. Perhaps that's why Solskjaer got cold feet.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:I've no doubt they're looking to do it this season, but i doubt it's the be-all and end-all in appointing the manager.BL3 wrote:Every indication is that they're looking at winning promotion this season. Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
We'll beg to differ on that one - i'd be worried what sort of decisons we'll make based on that alone.
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
Probably because he is not one of the managers we know. None of the above if you like.BL3 wrote:Why are people so fixated on Solskjaer? I suspect that if any of the leading candidates were managing in Norway, they'd be in with a chance of winning the League over there.
Do not trust atoms. They make up everything.

Exactly. Beware false prophets bearing gifts and all that.malcd1 wrote:Probably because he is not one of the managers we know. Safe and steady will do me, after the supposedly "exciting appointment" last time.

And who is this safe and steady you speak of then?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I really hope whoever is picking this manager gets someone suitable for promotion/next season but gives them a short contract that can be extended with success. Maybe a standard fee with bonuses for success. There should be a bounce effect with anyone new. If they're any good they should be able to get this squad in the top six. After they do that and get us up they'll be in a very good position when we talk about the contract for next season.Lord Kangana wrote:The problems will arise when:
1) They'll all be asking for longer than a 9 month contract
2) They'll all be wanting to bring "their boys" with them.
I have a feeling this is why Souness's's' name has suddenly surfaced.
That's not what we normally do though

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I thought the buzz was that he'd produced a title winning team at a club that had never come close before... No guarantee of owt else but that taken with his associations to old big nose caused the interest...BWFC_Insane wrote:Exactly. I'd also imagine if anyone with a coaching pulse could win the norwegian league some of these many 'usual suspect' candidates would have tried their hand or been approached too before now... Whereas Scandinavian import managers seem from my fractured memory to have a half decent track record over here and elsewhere...
Not hugely fussed but I'd rather the interest of oli than the dourness of souey
Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
If anyone actually gave a shit about the Norwegian league, any half-decent manager would be queueing up to boost their profile with a cheap title or two, much like they do in Scotland.norm the jedi wrote:I'd also imagine if anyone with a coaching pulse could win the norwegian league some of these many 'usual suspect' candidates would have tried their hand or been approached too before now...

Didn't do Martin O'Neill much harm did it?
And that bloke at Swansea was flavour of the month a wee while back...

Remind me how Hughes is doing again?
This isn't going to be as easy as anyone thinks.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
Well I'm not getting overly hung up on who we choose
He's nothing to beat in terms of bettering the last mon and we still have enough decent players that we should be at the top end of this league
Yes, there are deficiencies but if we play the right players in the right places, this jobs a piece of piss
In fact, I see no reason why Phillips and Lee can't get us through the next 6 months on relief and good will

Exactly the same could be said of Steve McClaren (except substitue Norway for Holland).norm the jedi wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Exactly. I'm wary of young and unproven in English football, "flavours of the month".
He could be brilliant, I'd just be worried that he could equally be a disaster.

Interesting. You'd be happy with those 2? I mean, great if it works, but surely Gartsides ass is grass if that cocks up?CAPSLOCK wrote:Well I'm not getting overly hung up on who we choose

PG in a bit of a win win here, Jiminho might be a revelation who knows!? 2 wins out of the next 3 might get him the job till xmas. If he does well he gets the job full time! Fans are happy, Jimmys happy and the club have saved £££ - if he turns out to be shite they can just appoint the ‘right man’ they’ve been searching for up until that point.
