At some poijnt a good new manager or coaching team will have to do the same, and have their first successful job that launches them or has them discovered.

They need to do their learning in the lower leagues rather than at a club which needs to win promotion this season.

If the only crriteria they're going off is 'must win promotion this season', then i suspect McCarthy would already be firmly ensconsed.

I suspect the board are looking a little more long-term (but no longer than 2 years) but granted no experience whatsover is not a good selling-point for the project.

I suspect that it's the only criteria, given that it will be much more difficult next season, otherwise they might as well have perservered with Coyle. Perhaps that's why Solskjaer got cold feet.

The problems will arise when:

1) They'll all be asking for longer than a 9 month contract
2) They'll all be wanting to bring "their boys" with them.

I have a feeling this is why Souness's's' name has suddenly surfaced.

I really hope whoever is picking this manager gets someone suitable for promotion/next season but gives them a short contract that can be extended with success. Maybe a standard fee with bonuses for success. There should be a bounce effect with anyone new. If they're any good they should be able to get this squad in the top six. After they do that and get us up they'll be in a very good position when we talk about the contract for next season.

I thought the buzz was that he'd produced a title winning team at a club that had never come close before... No guarantee of owt else but that taken with his associations to old big nose caused the interest...
I'd also imagine if anyone with a coaching pulse could win the norwegian league some of these many 'usual suspect' candidates would have tried their hand or been approached too before now... Whereas Scandinavian import managers seem from my fractured memory to have a half decent track record over here and elsewhere...
