Sounds promising and like BWFCI says.. Let's hope Freedman gets what he's after out of him.

Whatever the reason, it's pretty obvious he isn't considered good enough for the first XI right now by DF. I'd have to think most of that would be down to him. He's either a 4m striker or he isn't. Currently, it looks like the latter.

Have you read the article? Cos if you have we do know the reasons, and we do know what is being done to try and rectify the situation.TANGODANCER wrote:Whatever the reason, it's pretty obvious he isn't considered good enough for the first XI right now by DF. Yes. I read the article. I don't understand how being homesick makes you match unfit. He was not matchfit because he hasn't played any matches, but you don't not get picked to play because you're homesick. So, despite the fact that you think it is a reasonable explanation, I don't. Reading between the lines, I think it's code for saying he's fragile minded and plays like a spanner when he's all of a dither and therefore what TangoD said makes sense.BWFC_Insane wrote:Have you read the article? very encouraging to hear... very encouraging indeed - and well done Dougie...
if I were to be hyper critical - I'd still have expected a young striker who wants to make it big in the game to be giving his all to get fit at the very least and force his way into contention...
yes - I accept that people are different and some are fragile souls who are easily disheartened by not getting picked and so stop trying so hard...
anyway - I hope dougie's approach reaps the rewards it deserves...
still all quiet on the Holden front...

Holden wont play till Feb
Sordell - fine & right approach. Very disturbing to hear he is unfit. He hasn't been injured; clearly a training issue.

aye - but it also staggers me that a highly paid professional football player would not have the personal pride/professionalism at least to keep himself at the peak of physical fitness...officer_dibble wrote:Holden wont play till Feb

To be fair folk on here have been lamenting the fitness of the whole squad until fairly recently.thebish wrote:aye - but it also staggers me that a highly paid professional football player would not have the personal pride/professionalism at least to keep himself at the peak of physical fitness...officer_dibble wrote:Holden wont play till Feb

Though there's a lot of code in that as well.BWFC_Insane wrote:http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wa ... s/10066131._/
Quite refereshing to read an honest assessment of a player from a manager with no dressing stuff up.
But also the old Sam Allardyce "arm round the shoulder" approach to getting players back to their best in evidence here.
Lets hope Sordell responds. At least we know whats going on rather than the bullshit we were fed previously.
"Needs to work harder and I've been getting him to do that by concentrating on him ..."." .... if he steps up his intensity in training and shows me his attitude and hard work, then he’ll get an opportunity.
“So far he has done that, he’s had a couple of weeks of it."
"He's become very unfit and is in no shape for first team football. Largely because he was abandoned by the previous pillock and he's got into a downward spiral. e needs to shape up now".
Obviously someone who needs a cuddle rather than being bawled-out (which was supposed to be Coyle's forte). I suspect there's some truth in that .... but also in the suggestion that he hasn't helped himself either.
Homesick ? Bollox ... sulking more like.
At least he didn't spend his wages on Nando's night-in, night out.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

but that notwithstanding - these are professional footballers - and whilst they can't be blamed for lack of match fitness if they are not getting picked - they still have access to all the facilities and expertise - and have ample time on their hands - so there really is no excuse for them not maintaining their physical fitness.. surely physical fitness is a basic requirement for the job???

Yes, I have read the article as I have today's BN. You might also note that I said nothing that contradicts it. Currently, he isn't a 4m striker or he'd be playing. If DF can do as he says and bring him back to that status (by whatever means) then fine. I do hope he can. Not being fit constitutes being currently not good enough does it not?BWFC_Insane wrote:Have you read the article? ps. Hope you'll forgive me for thinking he's a bit of a mard fxcker in the bargain.Homesick is hardly something most empoyers would accept for a £300 a week employee not doing his job.

I don't disagree. I think there is a whole host of issues at play, including, but not limited to:thebish wrote: aye - that's true - and I am happy to be fair - there has clearly been a training issue..

Lax training attitude of previous regime that filtered into the players own attitude
Club not putting the same effort into looking after new players as previously (Nandogate)
Player having a 'I've made it/big I am' attitude
Bit of homesickness and missing mates etc
Lack of confidence brought about by not playing
Coyle is a wanker
He might be shit

I wonder, but in the context it's offered I like it.
Maybe Sordell isn't a lost cause, maybe he is. Either way, Freedman's comments seem likely to be in the clubs best interests. He just might make something of the fella, or he just might convince someone else that Sordell's worth taking a punt on.

Re: Marv claming Millwall fans were racist...
There are people who are self motivated and others who need more help/support. You're talking about a young lad here who has a big price tag, moved away from all his mates then never even got a game. The money thing becomes irrelevant I reckon to some degree. He's got a contract and gets paid either way but being ostracized as he was bizarrely from the start by coyle and being an outsider in a new place must be pretty shit for what is essentially a kid. As others have said coyle seems to have completely neglected the psyhological aspect of new players coming in at the same time a neglecting the physical aspect of fitness. Sordell is not match fit because he hasnt played for 8 months pretty much,he's a long way off match fit because he's probably been suffering from some degree of depression(due to circumstance) and has been under a manager who didnt seem bothered about fitness. How could he have been motivated to remain match fit when he knew he wasnt in the first team picture and he had a manager who had no idea what he was doing.officer_dibble wrote:Agreed! For me DF s statement is further evidence that he knows what he's doing and that coyle was possibly even worse than we suspected.
Re: Marv claming Millwall fans were racist...
I was wondering if anyone had considered the lads mental health. Professional footballers, after all, are only people that happen to be good at football.
As for match fitness, surely it's called that because it only comes with playing matches.
