And that Sordell may well be depressed or not, but either way as a football club who has invested millions in him, we need to find a way of getting maximum return in his performances.

And that probably, given the modern day footballer, telling him bluntly to "get the feck on with it" won't achieve that, nor will telling him how lucky he is. And whilst the money he earns may be galling to many, that does not mean he isn't a human being like anyone else, and his performances are affected by a wide range of things just like everyone else.
I understand where your coming from but none of us know what is up with Sordell so comparing Speedo's case with Sordells is fvcking shocking
The gaffer himself told us that Marv is homesick. It might not be depression, but I can imagine it's making him pretty fecking miserable either way. And, having recently recovered from depression myself, I can tell you that being told to "get the feck over it" will have a very adverse effect. So quit playing the holier-than-thou card, and show a bit of fecking compassion.
I'm saying "suck it up" if he's homesick

Can you read
Can you?

I'm saying that even if it is homesickness, and not depression, it's still a form of psychological misery, and being told to "suck it up" will only make it worse.

Not in my experience it's not but i come from a hard family but a good one

Define homesickness

Feeling depressed or melancholy over being away from home or family. Read into that also your group of friends, your regular haunts, your neighbours...

I remember when I was at Primary school and a few of my mates came round for a sleepover. One of the lads got 'homesick' (even though he only lived less than 2 miles away) and had to have his mum pick him up. This happened on two occasions in a row before my dad banned him from any future sleepovers. He was later diagnosed as a nanny pamby.

6 months ago he came out as a gay.

Disclaimer: in no way am I inclining that boys who get homesick at sleepovers tend to end up being homosexual at a later stage in life.

We was 11 years old. 5 years later and you can do the lottery, leave school and get married.

What a fascinating thread.

Tell me, Plymouth - does anyone join the army at the bottom these days for any reason other than they are thick and have nothing better on?

You chose the definition with the word depressed in. There are plenty of definitions that don't use the word depressed.

This is really disrespectful to the men serving our country. Not everybody who joins the army these days are "thick and have nothing better on". I know two highly intelligent men who are currently serving our country in the army. They had to start at the bottom. It's a career. Please don't tar them all with the same brush.

I find it fascinating that this thread has got to where it is because someone said that Sordell is depressed. Can anyone back that up please?

Instead of scoring points, read his question, again

Absolutely nowt there that's disrespectful - though, the hard of understanding might get the wrong end of the stick

Every discussion on here becomes so partisan

Troglodytes vs er, whatever the derogatory opposite of troglodyte is.

Mummycrayon was being clever. But then maybe bwfc89898989 was too.

It's possible Sordell has never been out of London much and was missing the bright lights, big city. Homesickness wasn't exactly accurate but it sort of sums it up. If someone is on their first extended stay away from home it's natural they feel a bit detached, at any age. I was 16 when I first lived away from home but then maybe Marv's just a bit of a big kid. Give him a week back home and he'll by dying to get back up north.
