Remember that game. I had an idea it was Lee Chapman who scored at least 1 for em but was a looong time ago.Bruce Rioja wrote:I remember us playing Sunnerlann in the third round in 83/84. They brought millions along and dicked us 3-0. I may well be wrong here but memory tells me that they had a blonde haired lad up top that got all three (Ashworth? Ashcroft?)
Nicer to remember 1980 when as a struggling division 1 side we went up there and won 1-0. Nelly Whatmore

Well i do think you could have drawn Arsenal away. I quite miss my annual Bolton at The Emirates game.

Are Sunderland the ones that can take whatever they want from our tawdry little club?

Oh joy. What a magnificent draw.
I remember about 15 years ago when the FA Cup was mildly interesting.
Shit until the the quarters.

Hearing today that Blunderland have won just 4 of their last 20.
Not that we have anything t shout about, but blimey, that's not the Martin O'Neil, Son-of-God sort of record you'd anticipate.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It's good if you're not in it...
It's also good in fact, for the first few rounds until the "big clubs" come in and ruin it.

O'Neil warned his team yesterday that they're in a relegation battle so I imagine he's going to see this game as an inconvenience and put out a heavily weakened team. So I reckon we could be in with a good shout.
Shame then that we'll be in a relegation battle ourselves by then and will also be unable to take the game seriously.

See, I hold exactly the opposite view. Overall,I love the earlier rounds with all the romance of it and the giant-killings. I lose interest as the competition worms its way to the inevitable pairing of two sides from the Prem.boltonboris wrote: Shit until the the quarters.
That is, of course, unless we're still in it, but look where that landed us

I did post further down that the very early rounds are good behind the big clubs ruin it. But the very late rounds is the only time you see a full house, get an atmosphere, or get the good teams playing their strongest sides..
It's great if you are going into the competition lower down the ladder and it was actually exciting to be part of. If we played Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton now, we'd take about 150 fans to each.

I'd be more interested in playing Oldham, someone a bit different.boltonboris wrote:I did post further down that the very early rounds are good behind the big clubs ruin it. I love the cup... Was where the magic started or us as I recall, white hit and all that...
Very different world now... Can't get very excited about Sunderland if I'm honest.
Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham

Worst draw possible.
Sunderland are dull, really dull.
I was praying for Bury or Tranmere - our 2 biggest rivals
