Sordell took his goal well, yeah. He constantly put pressure on there defenders chasing the ball etc which won us a few throw ins in the top third, other than that he was terrible. I know Bardsley isnt slow but Sordell looked like he was running in tricle when chasing a ball against him. As for Ngog I think he played well but as someone posted earlier he does the hard work then just cant seem to get a shot away. Midfield was OK considering against premier league opposition. Defence - Was impressed for the majority of the game. I think Alonso is coming on a hell of a lot. Lonergan well I think everybody has mentioned looked class. Would definitley start him against Millwall and see if he can back it up. I dont think we will get a win at their place but that game has given me confidence that we could possibly move up the table. COYWM!!!

Centre forwards do need to do more than 'just score'. Kris Boyd did that up here and watching Rangers was like watching a team start with a 1-0 lead but only ten men on the pitch.

It's ok being like that if you're a great finisher like Lineker, RVN or Berbatov (who does a hell of a lot more work than he gets credit for by the way) and you score the majority of chances you get but when you're not converting then you need to bring a little more to the team than 1 goal every six games.

What annoyed me was how our attack didn't seem to want to gamble.

All game Titus Bramble made sloppy back passes and played the ball across the 18 yard line without even looking once.

Klasnic would have probably scored playing against him because he'd keep making a run into space our lot spent so much time joined at the hip in the centre circle it was hard to see how we were going to score.

That one-on-one pretty much summed up a lack of confidence/ability for me. If he wasn't fast enough to out pace the defender (Sunderland were very quick at getting back and swarming over our 'attack' - a bit like we used to) then he should have taken one touch and pulled the trigger.

SKD got a cheer for preventing a goal kick when, if he'd have been on his toes he could have (possibly) got a cross in, or at least held the ball up for help to come. He didn't even start running until the ball was over his head and lost.

On the whole though thought the defence played well, it wasn't until Connor Wickham came on that Sunderland started to threaten.

Midfield was ok, thought Petrov played well and liked the corner routine that lead to the goal. Should of tried that a bit later but there you go.

Just wish the forwards would take a chance now and again. What do they have to lose?

Or even nearly three every four games: Van Nistelrooy got 150 in 219 games for the rags, but Ferguson happily sold him. In the five years he was there, they won the league once; in the following five years they won it four times.

Not that I think Sordell is necessarily that type of player, but just some more grist for the Coffey mill.

It's too simplistic an argument IMO. No striker 'just scores goals'. Klasnic didn't win many headers, didn't run in behind very often, didn't chase down much. He did drop deep to get involved in midfield though, and spread it well. Obviously some strikers do do a lot more (goal-scoring aside) than others. We'd all like the 30 goal a season man who is strong in the air, quick, runs in behind, but they are pretty rare. Whilst, particularly as the one up top on your own, you need to be an outlet. That can be pace in the channels, aerial ability, hold it up to feet, whatever, but you do need to be a pressure valve. How good at it you are needs balancing against how likely you are to score, because, obviously if you play 11 non-scorers, you aren't going to win.

I'd personally rather defend a 1-0 for 90 mins with 10 men, than a 0-0 with 11. Even better would be some balance between goal-scoring and all round play.
