I took it, on first reading, as that £6.2m = £4,000pw for the squad.

Otherwise, cool. Almost 19% out is neither here nor there.

You misunderstand my confusion, I've tried to work 6.2m into 4k and it won't go - I'm struggling to keep up with the 4k per week for Barnsley (Apples) and the 20m for Reading (Oranges), if yer get me drift.

I don't think Sam Ricketts and Zat Knight will be on huge wages simply because they re-signed after we went down so I would assume that their wages packets would reflect the fact that we are a championship club it's more people like CYL N'Gog who would be the problem.

On the one hand, the correlation between wage costs and league finishing position was weaker in the Championship than the Premier League. On the other hand, the evidence indicates that promotion to the Premier League almost always requires a top six ranked wage bill.

being in the football press, have you ever contributed any transfer rumours?

Yeah, we planted one a couple of windows back as a test; it was repeated on SSN and the player involved (an unknowing friend of ours) quickly denied it. Such things are easily done, usually to stoke interest, but generally we aim for accuracy.
I mentioned Nixon as although far from 100% accurate, he's closer than many - and certainly Boris's original "heard it on Twitter so it must be true". I still think it would be weird, and indicative of some severe belt-tightening: it's not like Dougie doesn't rate the players in question.

If there is any truth to the idea we might axe Knight and Ricketts I guess its worth keeping in mind that we can do that at any point, it doesn't have to be within the transfer window.

But if we release them after the window, they can't join another club until the next window. So we'd be asking them to take a 50% pay cut for no reason.

But Barnsley are very much the poor relations, CAPS. I'd be intrigued to know how we measure up against the likes of Leicester and Cardiff ("terribly in the league" - A Wag).

Kevin Davies just stands there and looks at everyone menacingly and is then told he doesn't have to take the test!

In all seriousness I think Dougie has a fitness test for new players and a bit like Allardyce a set of tests players have to pass before they can get in the side.

I wouldn't mind though, testing Kevin Davies to see if he knows where the front post is, and how to get there.......
