Who should we compare ourselves with when judging whether we may be paying very well in relation to the competition?

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I took it, on first reading, as that £6.2m = £4,000pw for the squad.Prufrock wrote:So he's £750 per week out? Massive.bobo the clown wrote:... or about £120k pw in the World of Mathematics. Otherwise, cool. Almost 19% out is neither here nor there.
You have a career mapped out in the public sector I guess.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
You misunderstand my confusion, I've tried to work 6.2m into 4k and it won't go - I'm struggling to keep up with the 4k per week for Barnsley (Apples) and the 20m for Reading (Oranges), if yer get me drift.CAPSLOCK wrote:How soLost Leopard Spot wrote:![]()

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Bobo, the figures came to my attention cos I read somewhere (else) that their top paid player was on 4k a week
That could actually still be true despite these other figures suggesting the wages are higher than that
Agents fees, signing on fees, bonuses, pay offs, managers etc etc etc probably all go into staff costs
Regardless, its way, way below the levels we are at

The saleable ones?gemchris1977 wrote:I don't think Sam Ricketts and Zat Knight will be on huge wages simply because they re-signed after we went down so I would assume that their wages packets would reflect the fact that we are a championship club it's more people like CYL N'Gog who would be the problem.

Ricketts and Zat Knight will be earning north of a million a year, I reckon.

Rumours again that we are in for Guidetti at City. Can't see it myself unless N'gog is on his way back to France.

So, £20k pw compared to Barnsely's top player who's apparently on £4k pw.boltonboris wrote:The saleable ones?gemchris1977 wrote:I don't think Sam Ricketts and Zat Knight will be on huge wages simply because they re-signed after we went down so I would assume that their wages packets would reflect the fact that we are a championship club it's more people like CYL N'Gog who would be the problem.![]()

LCY/NGog might be nearer £30/40!?
No wonder Craig wanted to leave.

Yes, way lower, though if Readings is £20m, then, at a rough estimate, it's around 3x those figures & probably no co-incidence they won the league. It's the 'Waitrose' factor.

I doubt Lee, or N'gog will be on that much more. Probably on a par, I'd say.. But at least we could get money for those.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Yeah, we planted one a couple of windows back as a test; it was repeated on SSN and the player involved (an unknowing friend of ours) quickly denied it. Such things are easily done, usually to stoke interest, but generally we aim for accuracy.jaffka wrote:being in the football press, have you ever contributed any transfer rumours?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Ah, so it's a Nixon rumour? Hmm...
I mentioned Nixon as although far from 100% accurate, he's closer than many - and certainly Boris's original "heard it on Twitter so it must be true". I still think it would be weird, and indicative of some severe belt-tightening: it's not like Dougie doesn't rate the players in question.
They're not the worst for it: see the Football Transfer League stats.throwawayboltonian wrote:Isn't that how The Sun sports works? Fling enough shit and some'll stick?
But if we release them after the window, they can't join another club until the next window. So we'd be asking them to take a 50% pay cut for no reason.Jez wrote:If there is any truth to the idea we might axe Knight and Ricketts I guess its worth keeping in mind that we can do that at any point, it doesn't have to be within the transfer window.
But Barnsley are very much the poor relations, CAPS. I'd be intrigued to know how we measure up against the likes of Leicester and Cardiff ("terribly in the league" - A Wag).CAPSLOCK wrote:To those who don't 'get' finances in this league and say our 'runofthemillers' like Knight and Ricketts aren't on big money, Barnsleys wage bill last season was 6.2 million - about 4k a week

however - it can't be that hard to pass..
Cravies was judged not up to speed - but K Davies (apparently) is up to speed...

Kevin Davies just stands there and looks at everyone menacingly and is then told he doesn't have to take the test!thebish wrote:it's some kind of running up and down between cones - a speed test jobbie.... In all seriousness I think Dougie has a fitness test for new players and a bit like Allardyce a set of tests players have to pass before they can get in the side.
I wouldn't mind though, testing Kevin Davies to see if he knows where the front post is, and how to get there.......
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Guidetti scored 20 goals in 23 games during his loan spell in Rotterdam last term....
