And, further to the West Brom or BWFC debate

Theres not many team in the Prem I would say this about, but if we were in that League, we're a far bigger pull than West Brom

I have never bought the size of the clubs into this. We are not Wolves with delusions of grandeur, we know what we are. It is not about 'my dads bigger than your dad'. It is about the fact that Albions management really rate him. They will not let him go, especially if you do come up to a potential relegation rival.

FWIW, as good as Dawson is, he does have one weakness that no amount of games will solve

Its a weakness that might expose him in the top league

It's a three-month loan. We signed him at the end of January, three months before the end of April. Loans are either window to window (ie to January or June) or month to month up to a maximum of three months; seems West Brom agreed up top to let him come for the maximum three months. Compare our one-month deal with Southampton for De Ridder - extendable if anyone's bothered.

Hmmm. Anyone else notice that BL3 disappears and DSB returns? Suspicious

Just kidding. Good to have you back DSB

53.2 Standard Loans. Subject to the provisions of Regulation 52.3, Standard Loan transfers shall only be approved in accordance with following provisions:

53.2.1 Subject to the proviso that the duration of a Standard Loan must be the time between two Transfer Windows, Standard Loans can be for half a Season or a full Season. Any recall clause requiring the early termination of a Standard Loan can only be included in a full Season Standard Loan and this can only be activated during the second (January) Transfer Window. Any other early termination of a Standard Loan must be by way of a mutual agreement in writing (including by way of a recall clause within the Standard Loan Agreement) between both Clubs and the Player but can only be completed after the expiry of 28 days and only during a Transfer Window (but subject to Regulation 53.2.2 below).

53.2.2 A Player whose Standard Loan expires (or terminates) on completion of his Loaning Club's League Matches will not be eligible to play for his Parent Club in any remaining League Matches in that Season notwithstanding the fact that such expiry or termination occurs during a Transfer Window.

53.2.3 Notwithstanding the provisions of Regulation 53.2.1, a Standard Loan of a goalkeeper (but not otherwise) may be subject to a recall clause exercisable at any time. Any recall may only be implemented in extenuating circumstances and with the consent of the Executive, such extenuating circumstances to be determined in the Executive's absolute discretion. A goalkeeper shall not be permitted to resume any Standard Loan following the exercise of a recall.

53.2.4 A Club can have a maximum of 4 Players under 23 and a further 4 Players over 23 on a Standard Loan during any Season. The deadline for determining a Player's age in this respect shall be 30 June prior to the Season in which the Standard Loan is intended to take place.

How many have we had
From memory, three: Spearing, Dawson and De Ridder. Gregus is technically on loan but from an overseas club so it doesn't count, as Watford have gleefully noted.

Only Spearing of those was a "standard loan" as I understand it anyhow.

Add in Afobe (Half a season).

Ah of course, how could I have forgotten Benny :D ... for the record, he's under 23 and Spearing (born Nov 23rd 1988) was 23 when we borrowed him.

So, not a massive oversight, then

More, the rules?

Odd that somebody who knows football missed that

Freedman out!

Seriously though and my reason for checking the regs, could we not have made it a 'season long loan' til season end, or even Winter to Summer window?

All this of course assumes WBA have no say in it

I don't think anything in the rules stopped that. I think it was West Brom's decision.

I'd say so. If I'm not mistaken - which happens, occasionally – the loaning club has no right of recall on the "window to window" deals, but can retain it in the month-to-month ones: it's possible West Brom have the right to recall Daws should all their centre-backs get injured.

De Ridder's gone back, says the official twitter.
Steve De Ridder has returned to parent club Southampton following his one-month loan spell with Bolton.

Ah, fair enough. I was thinking we could have had him until the start of the next transfer window, which would have made a three month deal odd, but thinking about it, I don't think you can have those longer loans midway through the season? I'm not too sure.

You can – Stoke lent Matthew Upson to Brighton for the rest of the term – so I suspect WBA didn't want us to.
