Re: ..so as no-one else has; next home game;
It was cold, really cold.
First half certainly as bad as it sounded on Radio Tango. How we got three points I'm not too sure, but we'll have 'em. We fell deeper after they scored, with little in the way of out-ball. Breaking from defence, not too bad, treying to find a forward to hold it up whilst we broke out of defence, none existent.
Lonergan some good saves and a few flaps.
Butterfield wasn't too bad first half, was a bit like the Alamo second.
Dawson generally ok
Knight some good some bad as ever
Alonso ok, reasonable going forwards
Chungy - in and out game with little end product
Spearing - lot of running and cover tackling, between him and Eagles for motm for me.
Pratley - did a fair amount of harrying but not his finest hour
Eagles - probably motm for me
Sordell - not sure why he got a standing ovation. Better than N'gog but not really effective.
N'gog - the highlight was his shot after good work from Eagles, that hit the roof of the South Stand, (on the way down). Fairly useless apart from that.

Think rockpaperscissors has got it about right.
God awful game with quite a few having poor games by their recent high standards.
Eagles motm but Spearing was excellent once again. Medo's late appearance stopped us looking shaky. No lack of effort from the rest but lots of poor choices and delivery.
Huddersfield will be wondering how they lost that and had what seemed like a stonewall penalty turned down.

Re: ..so as no-one else has; next home game;
Well, that was grim. The first half was dire. Neither side created any goalscoring opportunities and I don't recall a shot on target.
The second half was much better, but that isn't saying much.
We were very lucky to get away with a win. But, a win is a win.
I really worry what would happen to us if we did manage to scramble our way back into the Premiership. On tonight's performance we'd be relegated again, no question.
Having said that, I'm glad we won, since it still keeps things interesting for the rest of the season.

Way too harsh on the front two. Most of our play went through Ngog and he held it up and moved it on well. Sordell ran the channels and worked really hard.Worthy4England wrote:It was cold, really cold.

Sure end product lacking but that's an issue we won't solve this season.
Thought they both worked very hard and the ball stuck quite often.
Nice to have some pace and movement up there!

I thought first half especially, Ngog was the worst I'd ever seen him. Worked hard with a bit more success in the 2nd but still well below what he's capaable of imo

Perhaps unsurprisingly disagree, they were ok breaking out occasionally with ball at feet. Part of the reason we were under so much pressure second half was that neither of them held it up well and put out a pass to a white shirt with back to goal.BWFC_Insane wrote:Way too harsh on the front two. Most of our attaking play went through Spearing/Eagles/Chungy. Struggling to recall either forward winning a header. N'gog was dire first half, improved a little in the second.
Re: ..so as no-one else has; next home game;
Didn't think N'gog had a good game for him either myself - think it showed as we struggled to link up the midfield and attack.
Sordell came out second half fired up which was better. Hopefully that assist will help remind him that working pays off.
Somehow we've contrived to win again at home, much like we seem to contrive to lose games away..

We were under pressure second half for me because the midfield was too light. We got stretched.
Medo coming on completely killed the game as we filled out the centre of midfield.
My view at least. Some of NGogs touches were wondrous, especially a flick to Pratley first half.
He also turned his man several times.
I guess if you want someone up there to win flick one then neither sordell nor Ngog are your man.
However I thought they offered something useful tonight if not always finished off correctly.

Big shout for Eagles ball control tonight. 3 or 4 times he killed a long pass or took it into his stride making it look easy.
Oh and a question for the refs on here. The Knight backpass that produced the wonder save from Lonergan - shouldn't it have been a free kick to them since he touched it with his hand?

Christ knows how we've won our last 6 home games. How many of them did we really deserve to win? Lets just hope luck is on our side for the remaining 6 games of the season.
Results went our way again tonight, so the Wolves game is a big one.

Agree on Medo, could've maybe come on a little earlier with hindsight. Part of the reason the mid was so stretched was that no bugger was able to hold the ball for very long upfront.BWFC_Insane wrote:We all see a different game I guess.Worthy4England wrote:Perhaps unsurprisingly disagree, they were ok breaking out occasionally with ball at feet. I don't expect the front two to win flick ons with the frequency of Davies at his best. I do expect them to be able to bring some down from above knee height.

Re: ..so as no-one else has; next home game;
Ngog was very poor in the first half and not significantly better in the second. Alonso my shout for motm with Spearing and LCY also in the frame.
The first half performance was depressingly poor. The second half better - but not ever reaching good.
Huddersfield made more chances than us, including one right at the death. Their fans will be disappointed.
Medo made a difference - gave us some tenacity. Butterfield had the mobility of a trackless tank, and got a good toasting from their winger.
But we are now back in touch with the pack - the cost of throwing it away at Charlton is now glaringly obvious. Big big game on Saturday.

It was. They were so shit, yet got large parts of the game made us look like kids. We've got the points and a clean sheet, but fvck me that was shit. Not sure how much more of that kind of gash I can carry on paying for.DJBlu wrote:Sounds like a wank game.

Re: ..so as no-one else has; next home game;
Is anyone going anywhere near Southampton? I know someone who needs a lift. Dear me that Butterfield's shocking. Overweight, slow, constantly out of position (Chung and Spearing constantly having to bail him out) dived in I don't know how many times. Mark Robins had clearly spied him as our weak link and sent their number 7 over to get round the back of him which he duly did, with consummate ease might I add, for the entire 2nd half. When you're identified as being a weak link in a back four that contains Zat Knight then you really are a whole new pan of shite.
May the bridges I burn light your way

Butterfield had a stinker. They switched Pratley and Spearing over in the second half so Jay could cover him a bit bette than (the back to his useless self) Pratley
Ngog looked like he'd never seen a football for the majority of that game. He could've been playing with a bean bag last night and he still wouldn't have trapped it.
We were too deep again though. It's frustrating me as we've got the ability and should have the confidence to make games like that comfortable.

This too deep thing is getting tedious. We were massively stretched at times. That is most certainly not because we were too deep.
In fact we looked a better side when we went one up front as we finally got control of a game we'd not really been in control of all night as our midfield had not been strong enough to do so.
