Re: Dougie
Problem is BWFCI you admit generally that Dougie makes mistakes but when any are pointed out you go on the defensive. Can I ask what mistakes he has made specifically? I mean, we can all make a case for any system or combination of players if we want to play devil's advocate but you seem to do this all the time.
I agree with most of what you say about Dougie, very impressed with him, but let's not be blind to his occasional and inevitable mistakes. Seems daft when almost all of us think he's doing a good job.

People judge mistakes in the wrong way. Team selections can always be questioned. Nobody can say whether they are definitively right or wrong by the very nature. His worst team selection for me was the 4-4-2 he played against Sheffield Wednesday at home. No doubt many would have liked it.LeverEnd wrote:Problem is BWFCI you admit generally that Dougie makes mistakes but when any are pointed out you go on the defensive. I look more in general at how the club is managed, the direction of travel, the noises that come from within and the manager.
It's why I went to the fans forums to hear Coyle out. But there was just no substance.
So far Dougie seems very different.
Re: Dougie
As with love and hate, it can be a fine line between mistake and genius. It wasn't so long ago a chorus of 'You don't know what you're doing' rang out at The Reebok just before two sub's netted one apiece to win the game.
Without knowing the reasoning behind any decision, or what factors contributed to it, who's to judge? If Hall's cracking strike had gone in 'early doors' against Blackpool, it may well have turned out to be a stroke of genius.
As it stands, it's gone down as a clanger.

Re: Dougie
you never used to have a problem doing that!! C'mon - you say generally that dougie will make mistakes like any manager - I'm just asking you if he has already made any - after all, as you say - he's not the Messiah! if he has made any - even small ones - what are they?? you've never been shy of highlighting specific managerial mistakes before!!BWFC_Insane wrote:People judge mistakes in the wrong way. Re: Dougie
If you look at the sides that do well at the top of the game, most will not pick a constant 'settled side' week in week out. And they certainly have a winning formula.Bruce Rioja wrote:I think you'll find it means that they have a winning side/formula.BWFC_Insane wrote:A manager who constantly picks the obvious probably means they don't have much imagination.
Dougie has said coming in that he doesn't believe in the same 11 week in week out and that you have to pick the fittest team most capable of the job required each week, and that it is part of the modern game.
It might be different to what we are used to. But as a broad principle, he's doing what most of the top managers do. I think it's what he believes in.
What I think he will build around is a generally settled spine, as he had last season with Dawson, Spearing and Ngog in there during our best run.

Just to state the obvious we are not in 1981 anymore and the game has changed significantly.jaffka wrote:So when Ron Saunders won the league in 1981 and used 14 players during the course of a 42 game season, he should have chopped and changed moreBWFC_Insane wrote:A manager who constantly picks the obvious probably means they don't have much imagination.

Oh dear. Why haven't Man Utd used just 14 players then? Why haven't Chelsea?jaffka wrote:Has it? If the game hasn't changed then perhaps Bogdan should start picking up backpasses. After all that Villa side did it, so must be right.

Things improved a bit, but that first half hour was painful.

If Sports Science contributed to us being relegated next season, would it still be seen as a runaway success?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Dougie
yes - but to repeat... you did NOT say it is a squad game today - you said that picking the obvious is a sign of a lack of imagination... presumably in some lame attempt to make out that when dougie makes an odd selection it is actually a sign of imagination and genius rather than a mistake...BWFC_Insane wrote:Just to state the obvious we are not in 1981 anymore and the game has changed significantly.jaffka wrote:So when Ron Saunders won the league in 1981 and used 14 players during the course of a 42 game season, he should have chopped and changed moreBWFC_Insane wrote:A manager who constantly picks the obvious probably means they don't have much imagination.
truth is, sometimes it will be the right thing to do - sometimes it will be a mistake - as it was for coyle and megson and Lee and Allardyce...
you STILL haven't answered my simple question... has Dougie made any mistakes yet - and if so, what?

First 20, let's say...
