Sea-bovines do not fly, or live in trees...
Because that would be silly.

Did you know, if you commit suicide in Japan by jumping in front of a train, the rail company will charge your family a disruption fee.

Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts
I did not know that, but I did know (because I had a mate who was a train driver) that a significant proportion of the London Underground tube drivers have had a jumper kill themselves in front of them and that this is the second highest reason for days off (through the stress of it) superseded only by sickness due to colds and flu.Beefheart wrote:Did you know, if you commit suicide in Japan by jumping in front of a train, the rail company will charge your family a disruption fee.

It is also a little known fact that Japanese train drivers carry out a peculiar ritual when at work. They point and call out. The pointing gestures are part of the railway safety procedures called "shisa kanko" and is used by all Japanese train-drivers

You don't see that on the London Underground.

No. But I do know, if someone is executed by gunshot in China, they send the bill for bullets used (usualy two), to the family of the deceased.

Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts
Hardly "full project cost" though is it ? The whole cost of investigation, trial (albeit maybe only about a few hours in some cases), jail and police costs leading up to the execution will have been far, far greater than the cost of the bullet(s). So, really, they got a bargain if you think about it.Il Pirate wrote:No. But I do know, if someone is executed by gunshot in China, they send the bill for bullets used (usualy two), to the family of the deceased.Beefheart wrote:Did you know, if you commit suicide in Japan by jumping in front of a train, the rail company will charge your family a disruption fee.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts
It is a little known fact that the Golden Horde was actually called Juchis Ulus (which means the district belonging to Juchi - the eldest son of Genghis Khan). Juchis Ulus was composed of the White Horde (in the west) and the Blue Horde (in the east). The Mongols assigned traditional colours to the points of the compass, explaining why the eastern and western Hordes of Juchis Ulus are so named. There is no reasonable explanation as to why Juchis Ulus is known as the Golden Horde, and most history books come up with a mishmash of complete bollocks regarding the origin of the name. And in fact the Golden Horde only obtained its name over 346 years after its foundation in 1219 AD.

I suspect that that remains a little known fact due to everyone not being in the least bit interested.

Quite amazing how a race like the Mongols ruled the world then slipped away almost to nothingness. In its prime it had a hundred million inhabitants, now less than three million..Lost Leopard Spot wrote:It is a little known fact that the Golden Horde was actually called Juchis Ulus (which means the district belonging to Juchi - the eldest son of Genghis Khan). Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts
Well, hang on Tango, their progeny are still knocking around in a hell of a lot places. They largely converted to Islam (sorry Spotty) and were the ruling class in Northern India before partition. Most of the warlords in any 'Stan can trace their ancestry back to the Mongols. Even the Manchus, who ruled China until my father was born, were Mongols. True the Mongol Empire split into a series of khanates, etc. but the Mongol descendants were still running things. Don't judge contemporary Mongol influence by the population of Mongolia.TANGODANCER wrote:Quite amazing how a race like the Mongols ruled the world then slipped away almost to nothingness. Which I was ( wrongly) using as a yardstick, Monty. Saw a documantary a while back and some of the folks out there are still living almost like they were in Temujin's time.Montreal Wanderer wrote: . One Pru and I happened across last night, which we both greeted with 'WTF' stares.

Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts
It is a little known fact that help is at hand for all of you out there that are worried about the upcoming barbecue season and inviting folk round who might have malodorous flippy floppy feet syndrome. CrazyLabo in Fukuoka, Japan has taken advantage of the great strides taking place in odour detection robots and is marketing a personal hygiene sniffer available for special occasions such as parties. The bot, resembling a dog, checks a person's feet and can either cuddle up to the subject (no odour) or appear to pass out.

Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts
Anyway, just seen a really irritating advert for something called wowcher. Some random woman with an overstretched radiant grin and possessing the limited coordination of a welded steel girder tries to pick up her sushi with chopsticks before giving up and stabbing it instead with said implements and uttering the imbecilic catchphrase “Wowcher!”
Well I can tell you this Miss Wowcher, according to Japanese superstition that’ll be imminent death coming your way. Never stab your food with chopsticks – it’s a little known fact that death awaits you if you do.
(I haven’t checked with the makers of the advert whether she’s dead yet, but if truth be told I’m not sure she was exhibiting many signs of brain activity prior to the advert anyway).

Re: Spotty's Little Known Facts
Its not the stabbing of the sushi that winds me up about that woman but the fact she eats it like a pig afterwards. Fooking animal, slow down and enjoy your food. And yes that is rich coming from me but then I've never eaten on telly so ner.
