I did not know that, but I did know (because I had a mate who was a train driver) that a significant proportion of the London Underground tube drivers have had a jumper kill themselves in front of them and that this is the second highest reason for days off (through the stress of it) superseded only by sickness due to colds and flu.

It is also a little known fact that Japanese train drivers carry out a peculiar ritual when at work. They point and call out. The pointing gestures are part of the railway safety procedures called "shisa kanko" and is used by all Japanese train-drivers

Hardly "full project cost" though is it ? The whole cost of investigation, trial (albeit maybe only about a few hours in some cases), jail and police costs leading up to the execution will have been far, far greater than the cost of the bullet(s). So, really, they got a bargain if you think about it.

Well, hang on Tango, their progeny are still knocking around in a hell of a lot places. They largely converted to Islam (sorry Spotty) and were the ruling class in Northern India before partition. Most of the warlords in any 'Stan can trace their ancestry back to the Mongols. Even the Manchus, who ruled China until my father was born, were Mongols. True the Mongol Empire split into a series of khanates, etc. but the Mongol descendants were still running things. Don't judge contemporary Mongol influence by the population of Mongolia.

Anyway, just seen a really irritating advert for something called wowcher. Some random woman with an overstretched radiant grin and possessing the limited coordination of a welded steel girder tries to pick up her sushi with chopsticks before giving up and stabbing it instead with said implements and uttering the imbecilic catchphrase “Wowcher!”
Well I can tell you this Miss Wowcher, according to Japanese superstition that’ll be imminent death coming your way. Never stab your food with chopsticks – it’s a little known fact that death awaits you if you do.

(I haven’t checked with the makers of the advert whether she’s dead yet, but if truth be told I’m not sure she was exhibiting many signs of brain activity prior to the advert anyway).
