Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
My last call today before finishing work was to a young vulnerable mum. Should have just been a quick 5 minute visit but turned into a bit of a 'mare. Poor lass was in floods of tears and due to a mix up with her bank, was left facing this weekend with no money, food for her & the baby and no credit on her phone - she has no family nearby.
I couldn't in all consciousness leave her like that and decided to break the golden rule and offer her a tenner I knew I had in my pocket. I put my hand in my pocket to get it out and pulled out a huge wodge of notes I'd forgotten I'd put in there to pay for my car sevice tomorrow. Ended up giving her more than I meant too, cos I was too embarrassed to only offer a tenner, since I must have appeared loaded - Which I most definitely am not!
Not sure whether I'll ever see it again - Hope to God Karma comes back in pound notes!

In many ways, as your know Harry, very much not the right thing to do, but utterly understandable.Montreal Wanderer wrote:They say that virtue is its own reward (silly buggers). Just if she returns for more you know you have to say "no".
Bless you for your compassion and I hope she's the one in a million who pays you back. If not, then you get your reward in some other way.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Proud of you, Mate. And there was me thinking that I'd done good deeds today by buying lunch for one colleague and paying the Avon lady for another!Harry Genshaw wrote:My last call today before finishing work was to a young vulnerable mum. Thanks Peeps. Have to admit I'm a little worried about how it might pan out. Work will tell me I shouldn't have done it and although I've written the cash off (If I do get it back - bonus) she is chaotic enough that if somebody wanted to make an issue of me giving it, it could potentially get messy.

Apparently today is Armed Forces Day. I've absolutely no idea what the purpose of it is.

Am sure it was invented by the Govt so they can keep sending young lads to the arse end of the world as cannon fodder on spurious grounds, while at the same time saying "look at us supporting our boys"

Yes, pretty much my take on it too, Harry. No doubt Cameron and/or Clegg's in Kabul/Helmond etc. as I type.Harry Genshaw wrote:Agreed.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:It allows stupid folk post more shite on Facebook like "If you don't share this nonsense you're against our soldiers", or "Change your profile picture to this or everyone will call you a wanker". Interesting to note that The Sunday People's twitter operator appears to be just baiting everyone in response to the Michael Jackson story.

Now THAT is trolling.

Some of the baits are quite funny - but nowhere near as funny as the intelligence quotient of your average Sunday People reading Michael Jackson devotee, as displayed amply there.mrkint wrote:Interesting to note that The Sunday People's twitter operator appears to be just baiting everyone in response to the Michael Jackson story.

I opened the Evening Standard to horrible news yesterday. Someone who taught me at university died on Sunday after a fall or maybe a suicide from the roof of the law faculty when he no apparent reason to be there.
He was one of those older guys who thrived on the energy of being around young people. I know he will be very sadly missed.

My thoughts are with you. I had a shock from the local paper yesterday too. A guy who used to own the local bakery where I worked many years ago, a man who kept us fed, was generally decent to us and seemed very friendly, was locked up for 10 years for repeatedly sexually assaulting one of his vulnerable employeesmummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:http://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/wife- ... 83205.html
