Pietersen goes for 44 but he and Bell have put on 106. Magnificent effort from where we were when they came in.

Yes, but KP never seemed comfortable and continued to take risks. We need the dogged temperament of Trevor 'Stonewall' Bailey.

KP is KP. He didn't get out trying a big shot. He just got into all sorts of trouble against the spinner coming round the wicket. Just never looked comfortable against that.

No point just blocking. Runs are important here. At some point a good ball will arrive. Need to make sure we get runs on the board. But not recklessly. Cook and Trott both were out being stupid.

Well, we've got Bairstow who needs to justify his selection, Matt Prior who always gives it his best and then it's the bowlers. Now is when we need the runs. Come on lads, you can do it.

I'd not be counting on Prior for anything.

Had an awful summer with the bat.

Sorry I've been out. Can one of you run me through Pietersen's dismissal please?

This is what the official commentery has Bruce:

"Pietersen is definitely gone this time, a leading edge trying to work the ball to leg only presenting a catching opportunity to extra cover. Rogers comes forward and grasps the ball on the slide, bringing to an end a fourth-wicket stand worth 106."

Bad light stopping play again. Kinell, we used to play by the light of a street gaslamp, and a bit of moonlight, with a dirty tennis ball. Bowlers could see the wicket, batters could see it bounce and who cared about the fielders? If it hit a window we disappeared like Apaches at a cavalry trumpet. Softies...

aye... but it's not the players deciding to come off - it's the umpires...

Have to agree with Nasser though that the officials, who have been absolutely dreadful in this series, don't help themselves by dragging the players off when if they'd have bothered to simply look at the sky they'd have realised that it'd be brightening up again in two minutes.

Bairstow's gone for 28. A useful knock but would have been nice to see the day out with just four down. Bresnan does the inexplainable nightwatchman role. If he sees the day out..fair enough. Come on Ian Bell, get that well deserved ton.

Good day's cricket. We were in the deep stuff when Bell and Pietersen came in and as well as steadying it all, Pietersen's 44 was a tidy assist. "Ding dong, the Wizard lives". Ian Bell took it all one and got a third ton this series. That's really going. 200 plus in front with five wickets left. A good day tomorrow and we'll hopefully nail its hat on. Off to watch the highlights now on Channel 4.

Funny every session this test seems to be crucial.

For me the morning session tomorrow defines it.

Aussies get the new ball. Couple of wickets early days and England could lose their last five wickets cheaply like the Aussies did yesterday. If we bat through that session at worst for 7 then bat an hour into the afternoon we should be 320 ish ahead. And 300 plus, if Australia get that we are talking top class performance.

if we get 320 ahead - then you'll have some humble pie to eat!
