I said at the start of the season I would take a draw in each of our first 5 matches. Still sticking with that now!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I agree. Just think we're going round in circles.
So Dougie, ten months on. It's not enough, we need more time to come to a consensus view.
The first batch of this season's matches were always going to be a bit tough due to the nature of the opponents crammed into the opening month. But if we don't get a win soon, and we plummet bottomwards, I can easily see a more negative outlook developing too soon.

Gonna have to read about chimps now and see what all the fuss is about.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

That's the one. fair play to him. And her for laughing along. Hoddle was a bit bonkers though, shame as he had a lot to offer. Parlour will presumably be punished by being reincarnated as a woodlouse with a limp.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Thought I recognised that story, LE...![]()

The 'chimp' thing is a gimmick, a way of trying to make something inherently complicated a bit more accessible. Naturally, it'll do that for some whilst switching others off.

It's not only chimps though is it? His metaphorical bag overfloweth with planets and moons. I was half expecting some plot outline from planet of the apes in the appendicesCocopopper wrote:The 'chimp' thing is a gimmick, a way of trying to make something inherently complicated a bit more accessible. I'll also quit bleating on as well.

So .... you have a thing about chimps but are concerned how this will make you appear to others.Cocopopper wrote:The 'chimp' thing is a gimmick, a way of trying to make something inherently complicated a bit more accessible. Naturally, it'll do that for some whilst switching others off.

Tell me, how do you feel about that ??

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
All this was to do with 'legless players in a game' feck all to do with mind games!!
You can train correctly to remove the 'legless effect' the bit we have drifted onto is very questionable, it MAY work for some and NOT for others. Would it win the league? Doubt it, would it help? Maybe, but unproven.

So in summary freedman is doing ok, and Darren pratley's inner chimp may or may not make keep up his goal a game record. Have I missed anything?
For what it's worth I like the chimp idea. If it can simplify the workings of the mind for a sportsman so they can then learn how to get the best out of it, how can it harm?

Peter Reid has an outer chimp as well. I bet he'd keep 'em busy for a while.

May the bridges I burn light your way

Dougie's a bit "spiky" in his pre-match interview this week. Excerpts below. I'm still reading to find the "fantastic club terrific manager" quotes.....

I say hand on heart that he’s an ideal player for me. He’s a fantastic finisher and a great lad to have around.
You can go and spend a few million on (Jamie) Mackie and he’s a great lad but for me Jermaine is just as good and I have got him for nothing.
My Financial Fair Play is called hard work and scouting.
At the moment I’m not looking at points, wins, losses or where we are in the table it’s just about performances and when we’re all fit it’s just a matter of when it comes together, not if
I didn’t make these rules up but I’m scratching my head to see what they are actually for because people like Nottingham Forest and QPR are going out and spending £2-3m at a time. It’s a state when you are trying to put your own house in order but that’s the only thing I can do.......Or are we actually going to take points off people? What it is effectively doing is buying your way to points. You think the Premier League is five or six top teams and then a bottom 10 or 12, I think you will start to see a breakway group in the Championship over the next couple of years as people take advantage of these rules.
Keith’s agent had been on to me all summer saying he needed to play because of the international team and I said ‘no problem, if he’s ever not going to play I’ll give you a call.’ The club were fantastic in getting Jay Spearing for me and so I explained the situation to his agent because he was on the phone within minutes asking if he would play. I explained that he probably wouldn’t. The next minute he has got a move. I definitely didn’t get in the car and drive Keith there, and he definitely didn’t need to go. But I think in Keith’s case he wanted to go.

Must be the tough start to the season that means he's not arsed about points.

Very Steve Keanesque. At the moment I’m not looking at points, wins, losses or where we are in the table
So that just leaves the fans and the rest of the club concerned about league points.
Oh - and Eddie.

wins and results and points are irrelevant at this stage - it's about fitness and minutes on the pitch... errr....

"the science people behind the training tell me it's been good."
Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
meh, better that than the coylesque;- ignoring the league table when youre in the bottom three with 2 matches to go and just assuming it'll be ok.Wandering Willy wrote:

can we not just talk about Dougie on his own merits/demerits for a while without the need to compare him to another manager? I suspect that the judgement "better than coyle" doesn't really say that much and doesn't take us that far!
