Then again, Dougie might just ask "Is there anybody who doesn't want to play for this club?" as a wake-up call and, depending on the responses, nobody goes.

N'Gog, via his agent, has been touting himself almost a year now. He fancies returning to France and ... at the moment ... would fetch a fee.
The above description by Nixon fits Knight to a tee.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Lots of things to pull together here. Dougie's bristling press conference, gnixon's gnomic utterances, tweet from Neil Bonnar (not usually one for idle speculation), this apparently unconfirmed board meeting. Add it all together one way and you get (established) players being released from their contract in order to free up space on the wage bill: we could guess all night who that might be. Add it all up another way and it might be nothing of the sort.
Intrigued to see what tomorrow brings, and not just for the BN. (When do they update their website with that day's stories? 7am?)

One thing: if Knight is released or given away, it's a hell of a turnaround from being made captain. Could be called a U-turn, although I dislike the way the term's used in politics when an unpopular or bonkers policy is reversed. Could also be called a very bold move.

A courageous decision?

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I'd be sad to see the back of Medo and Chungy in particular. I'd like to keep hold of Pratley, Wheater and Bogdan (this is, by the way, excluding summer signings).
Knight can feck off. Ngog, I'd be accepting cash for; he's about the only one left that we could get a couple of million for.
I'm astonished that centre back wasn't given a far higher priority in the off-season. We've still got time to fix it, but it will require investment. If we don't have money to invest, well...things are gonna get a whole lot worse before they get better.

Courage tends to be qualified in retrospect. While those who died in the Charge of the Light Brigade might be recognised as courageous, the bloke who sent them into battle isn't. Perhaps had they pulled off a victory he might've been.Lord Kangana wrote:A courageous decision?
In the far less important world of football, bravery still depends on outcome. If in 1993 a reunified and reinvigorated Leeds had retained the league title without that obstreperous French interloper then Howard Wilkinson would be rather better remembered at Elland Road. If Freedman releases his captain and we shoot up the league, he'll be admired. If he releases his captain and we're still getting kicked from pillar to post it will be held up as another example of "You don't know what you're doing". Last time Bolton fans sung that at him we immediately went on an eight-match unbeaten run including six wins, so let's hope he still does know what he's doing.

Knight Lee N'Gog Mills in ascending order. Maybe Cravies or Mears. Medo is going nowhere.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I think that Knight being offered the captaincy was exactly what any half decent psychologist would have advised. Offer him the role and give him the opportunity to rise to it. Knight hasn't - he's still an absolute liability. I'll be absolutely gutted if one of the players being shown the door tomorrow isn't Zat Knight.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:One thing: if Knight is released or given away, it's a hell of a turnaround from being made captain. Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I suspect all this is being overhyped. We can only show someone the door if we 'pay them off' or if they 'agree to leave for nothing' or if another club want to take them on and pay their wages.
I'd say there aren't any who will walk for nowt.
Paying them off is counter-productive.
Moving them to other clubs? Can anyone seeing clubs being willing to take the ones we want out on?
I'm sure DF is working to move some out to make way for the loan market. But I can't see it being as simple as saying 'Knight and Wheater are both utterly abysmal cowards lets move them on'.

You say half decent, m'friend; I'd say half-insane. Or actually I'd say "Well thanks for your advice, doc: I'll take it on board and get back to you if I ever need you again."Bruce Rioja wrote:I think that Knight being offered the captaincy was exactly what any half decent psychologist would have advised.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:One thing: if Knight is released or given away, it's a hell of a turnaround from being made captain. Knowing when you've made a mistake, and acting 'pon it quickly, maketh the good manager. Trouble is, it's not like Knight's fallibility this term has come as a bone-shuddering shock to anyone at all. It was still a poor decision to make, and to make such a fuss about.

If these three do leave tomorrow we'll need a pretty quick re-appraisal of who to boo on Saturday.

If the team carries on regardless, I think that'll be pretty self evident.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
They're neither abysmal or cowards, just not quite good or skilled enough. Knight tries to defend bravely enough but hasn't the nous to play out of trouble so he leathers it anywhere. He loses too many balls to attackers and is no natural athlete. Wheater has bags of guts and puts his head in and might shape better with a more talented partner. Together, they just don't cut it.BWFC_Insane wrote: I'm sure DF is working to move some out to make way for the loan market. I mentioned yesterday the time when DF announced it during one of the fan/manager love ins and when he announced it there was a mixture of laughter, groans and gasps.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:You say half decent, m'friend; I'd say half-insane. That very moment he must have known the importance of being right. But Dougie has shown himself to be a stubborn guy and, whilst less divisive than Megson, still has a tendency to the "the fans don't really understand football the way we pro's do" style.
We are, of course, all assuming that
a). something happens tomorrow and
b). it's Knight that this something happens to.
My money is on f'call happening. In full view at any rate.

And to think both of our esteemed central defensive pair have been around England squads before with one even getting a couple of games.

Thats my worry, that its the usual shit to drum up sales/hits/interest in "super-duper-window-slamming-shut-ooh-its-still-ajar-isn't-it-anything-could-happen-deadline-apocalypse-day". I expect minute-by-minute updates from BWFCi.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Nah, you should always give people the opportunity to rise beyond their level of competence. Now, you and I know that Knight's already above his, but we really needed to give him the old "Come on, you've played twice for England. The club needs you to take charge". Whereas my pep talk to him would have been "Zat, you were signed by Fulham from Rushall Olympic for 30 trackies. They want 15 back you utterly useless sack of shit".Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:You say half decent, m'friend; I'd say half-insane.
