Barring the first half of last season this is the worst squad we've had for years
Re: Liam Feeney
*Pin out*
This squad is utterly wank compared to the comfortably mid-table Premier League squad Owen Coyle managed to relegate.

Dan saw the grenade coming and in an act of ultimate heroic self-sacrifice leapt on it and stifled the blast under his prostrate form. Hence no replies.Prufrock wrote:*Pin out*

Re: Liam Feeney
Is it really that different though? We still have arguably the best players from that squad (Holden, Mark Davies, Lee) and going off the team that played against Stoke, Kevin Davies and Martin Petrov are two that most were happy to see the back of, which leaves Klasnic and Reo Coker. I'd rather have Medo and Spearing than Reo Coker.Prufrock wrote:*Pin out*

My point was that with an all firing midfield (which is a massive ask at this stage), a decent central defender and a goal scorer we wouldn't be far off having a good side. I'd probably be inclined to agree with the poster who said we'd need a full new back line, but we all saw how Craig Dawson managed to turn that shower of shite from last season into a decent, solid back line.

Re: Liam Feeney
I don't think we have a bad squad at all. Even with the group we have, I'd be pretty confident that a manager like Allardyce would be able to keep us away from relegation if we were in the Premier League. The issue we have right now isn't the players' true level of ability, it's that they are underperforming. Bogdan, Wheater, Ream, Tierney, Medo, Spearing, Eagles, Davies, Chungy and a right back and striker isn't a bad team at all, and certainly not one which would obviously go down. I think we'd be better than at least 3 other teams in the Premier League, assuming we had a good manager in charge.

We might not be in this position if he'd got the balance of the team right before the season started.BWFC_Insane wrote:Danns was doing the running that our so called 'talented players' don't fancy doing. So he worked back when needed and supported Beckford when needed. Which involved a lot of running and effort. Was it an eye catching display? No, but it was a very much needed display in a role that we've found other players struggle with.
And he got a goal. Right now we are rightly prioritising attitude over ability. And Danns is showing exactly the right attitude.

The purse strings were loosened after the Brighton defeat and Eddie realising that the squad needed bolstering with the right characters. That is according to Iles and Nixon. You may not believe it.
I personally think it fits with a lot of what has happened and been said this summer.
But anyhow it doesn't matter now.

Nailed it. Perhaps now these tedious cyclical "debates" can end (I won't be holding my breath).
Re: Liam Feeney
It matters because there's either a strategy to what he's doing or there isn't. If he thought we needed these sort of 'characters', he's had a long time to address it. Don't forget that he spent part of the budget on Moritz, who's barely kicked a ball for us yet.BWFC_Insane wrote:No I don't believe he was.BL3 wrote:He wasn't able to recruit players who weren't getting a game for their parent clubs?BWFC_Insane wrote:Or wasn't able to.BL3 wrote: So he knew what the issues were but failed to address them?

Re: Liam Feeney
You can have a strategy, but if it's not working you try something else. If that doesn't work you lose your job. No-one's saying he's done a good job since the end of last season, but some of us are keen to see him get it right.

Re: Liam Feeney
This isn't some sort of finishing school for budding managers. There's only any point in persisting with him if you think he has what it takes to 'get us back on track', which he was brought in to do a year ago. Automatic promotion means 2ppg. Play-offs is nearer 1.5ppg. We're nowhere near either of those totals yet.LeverEnd wrote:You can have a strategy, but if it's not working you try something else.
