We have a pact together. I will look after them well and take them to some exciting places whilst they will keep me safe and dry and stop me falling from high places.

I went to buy a pair of Altberg's at the weekend (and unlike you freaks out there, in a more normal size 9½) only to find they haven't got 9½s in stock. Apparently a container with over two thousand pairs went 'missing' a fortnight ago. The bloke in the shop thought it might be the new year before Altberg manage to replenish them.
That's not a leopard!

I've had Altberg shoes but not boots. I was pretty happy with them. Rotherham company, I seem to remember? But I do like my Meidl's although I am strictly a three season walker with just the odd walk in snow now and again.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Meindl, eh?clapton is god wrote:New walking boots! Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Today I'm happy about......
Today I am delighted to hear that the real, authentic bones of Saint Peter are going to be displayed in Rome, which desperately needs more old saintly bones.
They have been a matter of some controversy since in 1939 a tomb 'believed' to be Peter's was broken into and some graffiti on the wall said 'Petr eni' which is believed to be short for 'Petros enesti' - Peter is Here.
Many doubts over their authenticity have been expressed by sane people, but, nevertheless, according to Monsignor Rino Forsichella ' the people of God have always believed the bones to be Peter's and we will give them the honour they deserve... Regardless of what scientific testing might reveal Christians would venerate the bones.'
The event is on Sunday.
I'm hoping to be there, of course, having had my faith transformed by seeing the actual chalice Christ used at the last supper in the Cathedral at Valencia. And I want to hear the new Gregorian chant under composition at this very moment... Them bones, them bones, them dry bones...
Perhaps Prufrock could offer a Latin version...
Edit: Google translate offers - his ossibus, his ossibus, iliae ossibus aridis...

Assuming they are the subject, I don't know the rest of the song. Unconvinced 'aridus' is usual for 'dry' though, and I don't have an idiom for using 'them' instead of 'those'. 'His ossibus' is dative or ablative (to/for/with/by) and 'these bones' rather than 'those bones'.
HTH.
I do enjoy that for one of the Saint's, there are about 15 official relic feet or hands. All legit.
