Bogdan out for five weeks.

That's disingenuous. Jussi was our first choice keeper from the age of 23 onwards. Banks made 20 starts for Bolton over four years and that includes the periods when Jussi was injured.CAPSLOCK wrote:When Jussi was 24 he was getting dropped and replaced by Steve Banks - he was often like a startled rabbitLeverEnd wrote:Jussi was top class quite early in his career.
Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
No, he was dropped
Cos he was shit
When he was 24
And Banks only made 20 appearances over 4 years cos we signed Matt Clarke when Jussi was injured
Cos banks was shite
But at least the equal of Jussi aged 24

I think it was the Blackburn game what finally made Sam lose patience with Banks.CAPSLOCK wrote:No, he was dropped

I never saw Siddall, McDonagh briefly and Branagan was obviously a terrace favourite and for me the second best keeper I have seen Bolton have over a period of time.CAPSLOCK wrote:I agree and we've had some good onesjaffka wrote:Jussi has been the best keeper I have seen, that Bolton have had.

If anybody doubts that Jussi had issues at 24, just consider thisjaffka wrote:I think it was the Blackburn game what finally made Sam lose patience with Banks.CAPSLOCK wrote:No, he was dropped

Allardyce played Steve Banks ahead of him for a game against fcuking Challinors throws

Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
I put quite early because I remember he had his moments as a lot of young keepers do. Basically what I'm saying in is that by Bogdan's age he was miles better than Bogdan is and had the reputation to go with that. I'd say claiming Banks and Jussi were equals at that point is boll... I mean disingenuous.Whookam wrote:That's disingenuous. Jussi was our first choice keeper from the age of 23 onwards. Great keeper. I remember Andy Dibble being brilliant on a loan spell as well, was gutted he had to back.Bruce Rioja wrote:Branny by a fecking mile

Jussi did have issues when he was younger, but by the time he was 26 he was first choice (until his knee went pop) as we got promoted and was miles ahead of where Boggers is now. Boggers wouldn't need to get to Jussi's eventual level to be considered decent mind, but he's a long way off for me. Constant little mistakes and occasional big mistakes is not a good combination for a keeper.

Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
I recall Jussi having an absolute 'mare against Crewe on Saturday around 2002. I mean utterly awful.
He was a sound keeper who at his best became v v good. But his kicking failed to improve over all the years he was with us. His insistence on 'distributing' it via the big hoof, albeit to a then very effective SKD, and simply NEVER throwing, rolling or even a shorter kick meant we were predictable.
Maybe is the rose-tinted specs of time but I thought Brannigan and McDonagh were at least his equals.
To Bogdan, meanwhile, I've never been convinced. He's young(ish) still and time to improve, but he has steps to make.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
Bogdan's still young for a keeper and he's pretty sound for me. Technically he's good, issues I think are mostly confidence related.
As has been said, he's never had the luxury of a solid back four. Would be nice to think he'll experience that in the not too distant future.
Lonergan is solid, just that bit older. Would probably shade Bogdan for that reason

Lets keep deluding ourselves into thinking that Bogdan is technically amazing in order to counter the fact that he's very error prone. He has brilliant games and a lot more bad ones.
Thankfully Lonergan is in the side and we're seeing an experienced goalkeeper being average and doing the job we all expect, nothing more, nothing less. Its what we needed really instead of the constant berating of Bogdan for his mistakes. Now if we can only do the same for the defence.

Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
Branagan is my favourite but Jussi's top flight career says he was a better keeper.
I've seen some good uns and one or two shockers and although Bogdan is competent imo, I don't think I've ever seen a goalkeeping performance as bad as his was v Chelsea

I was referencing your post, not someone elses. Despite whose post it was or wasn't, the gist of it is people think Bogdan to be technically very good but I honestly think that might just be case of the fans trying to justify his inclusion.Enoch wrote:Why did you quote me if you're referencing someone else's post?Mar wrote:Lets keep deluding ourselves into thinking that Bogdan is technically amazingEnoch wrote:Technically he's good

Well you've knocked it down from amazing to very good, another go and you might get to where I am.Mar wrote:....the gist of it is people think Bogdan to be technically very good....Enoch wrote:Why did you quote me if you're referencing someone else's post?Mar wrote:Lets keep deluding ourselves into thinking that Bogdan is technically amazingEnoch wrote:Technically he's good
By the way, do you believe he isn't good technically?

Bogdan is the future of our club, lets not f*ck about. He's a kid that needs guidance. He doesn't seem to have got it, but he's an amazing talent.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
I ask myself would he have pulled off some of the saves that Lonegran has recently and I don't think Bogdan would have even bothered going for half of them. Especially the one from the header on Saturday. Has stood and watched far too many go in for me, has Ginge.Lord Kangana wrote:Bogdan is the future of our club, lets not f*ck about.
