Personally I find the 'o' version a false analogy with other Latin-derived words to make it sound more official. British newspapers and institutions tend to favour the 'e', in my experience.

Hence my surprise at the BBC's choice on this occasion.

Well, as the Grammarist noted the 'e' is five times more common even in Canada and the US. OED give the etymologies as

Etymology: < advise v. + -or suffix. Compare post-classical Latin advisor (10th cent.), Middle French aviseur (a1400, rare). With sense 2 compare earlier adviser n.

and

Etymology: < advise v. + -er suffix1. Compare advisor n.

which doesn't leave us much ahead. I guess that makes you a commoner....

I, along with many, have been horrified by the extent and endurance of the current floods and heartily glad that it's not an impact on me and mine.

There is, I feel, a mass hysteria building up ... typical of the era of 24hr tv news. But it IS a big, big story and a personal tragedy for many.

However, am I alone in thinking this prick in particular is simply loving every aching second of it.

A good while ago I used a term which got some people rather agitated. It was "Liberal Fascism" ... that being a wave of attitudes by which if you don't agree with current liberalistic thinking your life, work and freedoms can be seriously affected.

PS I read a report today (NO FXCKIN LINK ATTACHED) that said men who used long words are less attractive. I've interpreted that as a thick cvnt journo what writ it. You see Hobes, that also was apropos of nowt x2 + I believe Willy The White has also complained regarding this latest short cut of yours = WeDemandRants

Sorry it was done on the ‘fly’ so to speak.
No rant on this one, I just thought it was an interesting article pointing out that every so often we have horrendous weather and this year was another particularly bad one of a different kind.
I do worry though that we have not seen the end of the bad weather yet given the snow and cold around last Easter time.
I promise I will not post any future links without a comment or a rant
