Re: The Weather
Well, as the Grammarist noted the 'e' is five times more common even in Canada and the US. OED give the etymologies asmummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Certainly even the Americans used 'adviser' in their legislation in the 1940s. ihttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Investment_Advisers_Act_of_1940" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Personally I find the 'o' version a false analogy with other Latin-derived words to make it sound more official. British newspapers and institutions tend to favour the 'e', in my experience.
Hence my surprise at the BBC's choice on this occasion.
andEtymology: < advise v. + -or suffix. Compare post-classical Latin advisor (10th cent.), Middle French aviseur (a1400, rare). With sense 2 compare earlier adviser n.
which doesn't leave us much ahead. I guess that makes you a commoner....Etymology: < advise v. + -er suffix1. Compare advisor n.

Re: The Weather
Advisor is an Americanised version of the old English 'advisour'.
Probably.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Apparently 27000 people in the north west (hopefully just the Scoucers and the Mancs) are without power, sounds a bit more serious then flooding.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

I, along with many, have been horrified by the extent and endurance of the current floods and heartily glad that it's not an impact on me and mine.
There is, I feel, a mass hysteria building up ... typical of the era of 24hr tv news. But it IS a big, big story and a personal tragedy for many.
However, am I alone in thinking this prick in particular is simply loving every aching second of it.

You see, bobo, your introduction is liberal fascist in its own right, because you're basically telling us that one cannot get upset about people whose job it is to be scientific taking contrary anti-scientific stances.bobo the clown wrote:A good while ago I used a term which got some people rather agitated. Believing or not believing in climate change has nothing to do with political allegences and everything to do with evaluating evidence andtheories in a logical and scientific manner

Weather and climate are two different things.bobo the clown wrote:... or maybe too many people have made themselves a really nice living making pronouncements that vary wildly decade by decade.

Hence why I created two distinct threads.
And still mummy and you can't tell them apart.
Weather is driven by climate and not vice versa.

It always has, it always will vary.
The ones who worry me are those who seem surprised that it does.
The ones who infuriate me are the ones who pretend they can control it and build up a scare-story which allows them to build a career around it.

Re: The Weather
Why do you do that? Why do you post links with no comment... I'm not going to randomly read links in the vague belief it might impact on my life no matter how tangentially.
PS I read a report today (NO FXCKIN LINK ATTACHED) that said men who used long words are less attractive. I've interpreted that as a thick cvnt journo what writ it. You see Hobes, that also was apropos of nowt x2 + I believe Willy The White has also complained regarding this latest short cut of yours = WeDemandRants

No rant on this one, I just thought it was an interesting article pointing out that every so often we have horrendous weather and this year was another particularly bad one of a different kind.
I do worry though that we have not seen the end of the bad weather yet given the snow and cold around last Easter time.
I promise I will not post any future links without a comment or a rant
